Well i just might be the only one who responds to your question who says that my Pits ears are cropped. I took him to a vet so I can honestly say that he did not go through any pain. I like the way it looked and felt that it was not cruel. I still do not. I think that those who do a backyard job are the cruel ones.
The ears being cropped do have a purpose but then again, had his ears been the nice rose bud kind I would not have done it. it was looks for me. it is all in the personnal opinion. some may disagree but that is how it is. I will say that it is rather funny that Registries are starting to ban it when it is harder to finish a dog that has natural ears then one who has cropped. Any breeders and show people will know what I am talking about.

No.....Its Awful and should be banned! As Should Declawing or you may as Well Say Detoeing Cats! I can stand Tail Cropping as I have seen it dont One snip at 2 days old right back to Mom with very little Blood...But I can Live without That as Well. Why can people enjoy animals The way they are Made? I think Boxers and Pits Look better With their Ears Uncropped! We had a Pit Mix come into the Shelter with a Home Done Ear Crop..Someone had cut his Ears OFF! Totaly!

No, I don't agree with ear cropping. Personally, I prefer floppy ears on dogs. I think it's a lot cuter. I've had boxers most of my life and they have all had floppy ears. The vet clinic I used to work at wouldn't even do an ear cropping.

No, I don't agree with it, nor would ever do it to any dog. Thankfully, most of the breed registries out there are no longer requiring ear cropping or tail docking for show quality dogs.
I say if someone prefers a dog with upright ears that they look into a breed that has this naturally, rather than altering a dog and putting it thru so much pain that isn't needed.

I am not against ear cropping, tail docking, or removal of dew claws. According to some previous replies, that will undoubtedly make me a cruel, hideous monster who revels in others' pain, but I also consider the background of these animals when I form my opinion.
Most breeds that require cropping for their ears to stand erect were bred for protection or apprehension work, as well as some other potentially dangerous jobs. The cropping of the ears originated as a method to protect the dog itself, as well as make the dog more job efficient.
I am most familiar with the Doberman Pinscher, so I will relate with this breed. When Louis Dobermann first began shaping his idea of the perfect protection dog, many of the litters whelped had short tails and erect ears. Through Herr Dobermann's own observations, these dogs with the stubs for tails and short, erect ears offered less for a potential robber to hold in the attempt to remove the dog from its attack. Dobermann attempted to continue these traits in his shaping of the breed.
When the shaping of the breed came into Thuringen Kennel and Otto Goeller's hands, it was still a very new "breed." Goeller focused on the body of the dog, and the drives required to do the job the dogs were bred for, and in the process, was unable to retain the erect ears and short tails, thus these dogs were altered (cropped and docked).
In this day and age, the crop and dock process is more for aesthetic reasons, though there are still working dogs that do benefit from having their ears and/or tail altered.
I would like to mention that if any readers are considering a crop or dock, there are good methods and bad methods. My personal favorite for ear crops is the laser. I have had two dogs cropped via laser, and both healed extraordinarily fast. Both my pups' ears were standing in under ten days. As for docked tails, many breeders dock their pups at an extremely early age (shortly after whelping), and I do not allow my pups to be breeder docked. I arrange for the dock to be done at a veterinarian's office and pay the fee myself. I feel more comfortable with a professional in a sterile environment using anesthesia.
For those who would like to shave my ears down, I ask you: Would you rather have your ears shaped in a clean, surgical environment with little pain and a fast recovery, or have an ear torn off in the line of duty, only to harbor an infection and cause you pain and suffering for months?
Lastly, in accordance with Sillygoose (the breeder a few posts above), we do indeed do these same things to our children. If a person can tell me how cruel it is to have a dog's ears or tail altered, I would have to immediately ask if they had any sons, and if those same children were "cropped." I have entertained many debates on the issue of the humanity of ear cropping and tail docking, and find that most opinions that are vehemently clung to are either uninformed or misinformed, and held by a person who doesn't posess an open mind or a desire to do any research on the matter.
Where facts are few, experts are many...

Absolutely Not!!!
I have four boxers and three pugs, and none of them have cropped ears.
Can you imagine the pain they would feel after the healing
process began.
Have you ever 'just lightly' pinched a dogs ear? well they always yelp don't they!!
Doga ears are very sensitive indeed..
Even my vet is opposed to cropping ears, and refuses to do it..
That tells me a lot right there..

I think ear cropping is unnecessary and cruel as is tail docking. If the ears were meant to be that way then that is how the dog would have been born. It is cruel to maim the dog like that.

I think only evil, superficial people crop their dog's ears. Same goes with tails. They were born that way for a reason. It's completely cruel and unnecessary.
