True Christians understand that heaven is the dwelling place of God and Jesus and the angels. Only a very tiny fraction from among mankind will be resurrected to heaven, and for a special purpose.
The EARTH is the proper dwelling place for humans and animals.
Jehovah's Witnesses, for example, note that Adam and Eve expected to live forever on earth. More than 99.9% of Jehovah's Witnesses profess the earthly hope (that percentage is literal, from their yearly "Memorial" commemoration).
(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]
(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]
Interestingly, the Scriptures are full of references to this earthly hope.
(Psalms 37:11) 'the meek will possess the earth'
(Proverbs 2:21) 'upright will reside in the earth'
(Isaiah 45:18) 'God formed the earth to be inhabited'
(Matthew 5:5) 'the mild will inherit the earth'
(Revelation 21:3) The tent of God is with mankind

Well my child is not old enough to ask that question, but i believe that the animals are going to heaven.... Maybe... And the reason i say that is because God created them just like he created us, there living breathing, alive creatures that can feel pain when there hurt, they want to be loved and showed attention just like humans so why would they not go to heaven? Because they don't have a soul, well who said that they don't? Or is it because they cant ask for forgiveness? Why would they have to they weren't born sinners and they do nothing that is a sin... There animals... Also someone out there will say well God created the trees, grass etc, will they go to heaven? That is different, trees don't have feelings if you cut them down you don't hear them crying do you? And there will be trees and body's of water in heaven so who knows that it wont be the trees that are here today... Now i don't believe it will be but who knows I'm not God, only he really knows... But the Bible does say that we can have the desires of the heart in heaven, which may be my cat.... lol. the bible doesn't lie...

Since some kids are really naive and sensitive, Christians tell them that their pet will go to heaven. But Christians actually believe that only people can go to heaven. It just shows human arrogance. I've got nothing against Christians: I only have a problem with people thinking they are superior to animals because of thumbs and more complex communication. You can't expect them to say they WON"T go to heaven; no one wants a crying kid.

Teach Children That Pets Are Not Humans
As children’s affection for a pet deepens, care needs to be taken that they do not go overboard and begin to treat their pet as a fellow human or as having human qualities or levels of understanding. This would cause unnecessary trauma when the pet grows old and dies or perhaps is killed in an accident.
Of course, this is not something that only children have to be taught. Some adults also need to be careful in this regard. In some cases the pet is fondled and treated as if it were a baby or a small child. Children may be quick to emulate things they have observed some adults doing, lavishing affection on their pets.
So we need to keep a balanced view of pets and teach our children likewise. Help them to see that pets and all of God’s animate creation are here for man’s pleasure and use. But we must be careful never to elevate the animals and birds above the role that God intended them to have. It was not God’s purpose for animals to live forever. Their limited life span is not due to the sin of Adam and Eve and the subsequent inheritance of sin and death, as is the case with humans.—Romans 5:12; 2Â Peter 2:12.
When pets are kept in their proper place, they are a delightful gift from God for man’s enjoyment. And not just for children. Many lonely, sick, and elderly people have derived benefit as well as pleasure from their affectionate pets. “Researchers say that, in some situations, pets—or, as some prefer, ‘companion animals’—can improve their owners’ heart function, speed recovery after a heart attack, ease anxiety and lower blood pressure,” notes the journal AARP News Bulletin.

A true and humble bible-believing Christian will tell their kids "I really don't know".
If there is biblical evidence that dead pets go to heaven, I haven't found it yet.

That the spirit is released into the universe and one day you will recognize the spirit, that they are waiting on you like your relatives. It may be true, one time I was out of town and I was asleep dreaming my pet was climbing up to a place with all of my other passed pets and then the phone rang and they told me my pet had just died. Strange, I didnt know if there is really a connection, I just hope so.

When God allowed Noah and his family and animals to be in the Ark to escape the waters of judgement I think this is a prophecy that God will restore man and all animals. In Acts 3;21 it is mentioned that God will restore all things which I believe includes our pets. After all God has said that all His creation is good so it is not far fetch to believe that God will restore all things good. If God finds it good to restore your children their pets they will have them. I say that you exercise your faith in God to do all things good and say to your children that they will see their pet in heaven.
