Watcha :)

It would have helped a little bit to know what sort of job you have gone into. However even without knowing that, i have a few questions for you.

Firsty, is this the actual work you dislike - or perhaps one aspect of it - or might it be the people you are with, their attitudes or the environment.

What part of your dream is not working in reality? Is there one thing more than anything else that you do not like.

Assuming for a moment that you REALLY do not wish to carry on with your job, then is there anything else that all your training could be useful for. Perhaps not taking you all of the way to a new job - but giving you a BIG head start?

Howsabout editing your question and adding a little more info so we can think a bit more with you?

Mark

Ok thanks for the extra information. A few more questions for you - sorry :)

Are you wanting to leave the medical field altogether now - or is it just the nursing aspects? There are various other careers that I would think your background is invaluable to - from a doctor to a paramedic and a variety of other positions in between.

Are there any specialist avenues that appeal? pediatrics? geriatrics? people living with HIV?

If you are wishing to leave medicine behind in its entirety, how quickly could you begin a different career - perhaps training on the job.

I hear what you say about your friend, exploring for oil, is this something that appeals because you are into oil exploration **OR** because you miss the companionship and adventure of a close friend? I am interested in what the envy is about.

To go back to your original question, I do not think there is anythig "wrong" with you - but clearly something has moved - and at a time which is less than ideal for you. Having said that, I guess better to change direction now than in five years time.

What sort of work now appeals to you - and how much training would be involved before you could get actively involved in it - at least to a point of being able to earn enough money to let you live while you learn?

There is nothing wrong with you. You just sound like your dream job didn't live up to the dream. Maybe you should look for another place to do your dream job? This question is so general.
