For the past two days, I have had a sore throat that you just know will lead into you being sick.

This morning, my throat hurt even more. My voice was hoarse and I had a headache. I was extremely cold in the morning, no matter how many layers of clothing I put on. A few hours ago, my nose became stuffy, but I cleared it out a bit with steam.

I have a school play audition *cough* in a week and I don't want to have a funny sicky voice for it.

What can I do to prevent this soon to be cold?

Plus, I am coughing right now.

I swore I had a fever today, but when I check my temperature, it was 99.1.

Plus, we have relatives coming over tomarrow for thanksgiving. I don't want them to avoid me because I look awful and sound sick.

Since it is taking so long for you to get sick, that is the hallmark of a viral infection (bacterial infections make you sick within hours, not days). A few years ago, some research published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that zinc supplementation cuts the average length of such infections in half. This is a similar treatment effect to antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections (antibiotics do nothing for viral infections). You can get zinc in the form of pleasant tasting honey lemon cough drops at almost any grocery store. Suck on a bunch of these to get the effect. It's the only thing I know of, shown to do anything for colds. However, it does alot and is easily and cheaply obtainable. Vitamin C, btw, has been shown to do nothing.

Whenever I feel that way I immediately take Ecchineaca and Vitamin C 4 times a day. Drink lots of water and eat protein. GO TO BED AND SLEEP. That always works for me. The cold will still come, but it will not be as bad.

Lots of vitamin C + drink OJ to help fight it off. Also, my grandmother swore by gargling with salt water for a sore throat.
For a voice that is hoarse try some warm tea with honey.

It seems that different things work well for different people. A lot of folks swear by Theraflu for symptoms like you describe. Personally, a combination of a cheap (Dollar General Store) pill called "Severe Congestion" along with Tussin cough medicine . . . also cheap Dollar General Store . . . has worked well for me over the years. Also, a combination of Nyquil and Dayquil has worked for me. Best wishes; GET WELL SOON!
