i've got a 2006 jeep wrangler and noticed yesterday that the yellow engine-shaped light has come on. i'm only 12 days over my next three-month oil change and there're only 2600 miles on the vehicle. can anyone tell me what the light being on means?

normally, i'd check the owner's manual, but i'm packing for a move and i don't know which box my owner's manual is in!

i appreciate any help you all can give.

thank you!!
mickie

p.s. happy thanksgiving!

I have a Jeep Wrangler 2006 Rubicon and my engine light came on a few weeks ago because one of my brakes locked up. I was in the wilderness and couldn't do anything about it, so when the brake broke loose the light went off. Its not an old vehicle, make your move then take it to a dealer.

The yellow 'check engine' light is an indication that your vehicle has a problem related to the emission system. It should be checked out soon but is generally not a serious problem so you should be able to drive it and have it checked out at your earliest convenience.

For a car this new I'd guess it has something to do with the EVAP system. You might try to check if you didn't leave your gas cap loose. Either way I wouldn't recommend trying to fix it yourself, there's too many electronics on this system. Get it to a shop as soon as you can.
