What is the cheapest high quality SLR camera? I really want a professional camera at an affordable price so that my parents wouldn't mind getting me one for Christmas or my Birthday coming up in December.

When you start getting into DSLR it is unwise to go for cheapest as your guideline. Many such as Nikon/Canon offer entry level DSLR decide what you want it to do and what accesories you can add on at a later date. e.g Canon 350D has just been upgraded by a new model which is not significantly better but you should be able to get a good deal on the old one (for a short time!). It also has tonnes of assessories even old SLR lenses fit. Spend wisely now or you regret going down the cheapest route later when you have some spare cash but can't upgrade what you bought

a Canon A1 is an excellent choice, they are not totally plastic, like the Rebels are and there more lenses available for it than you can imagine. The same is true of either the OM1 or the OM2 from Olympus, but they are lighter weight and smaller - far more comfortable. There are no flies on Pentax or Nikon. I have had Canons, Olympus and Pentax, but most people shooting a 35mm SLR Nikon think they are walking around with the best.

The word camera is Latin for Box or room (chamber), other than that, the lenses aer the only difference and there is no difference that you can discern in any of the lenses for the above cameras.

The rest is between your ears, that is where good photography comes from.

I don't think you want the cheapest SLR camera you can find.

I have the Nikon D70 and I really love it.
