My best friend has fallen for a man who is 31 and she is 19. She attracts older guys because of her personality which stands out from other girls her age. She has been going out with him for at 1 year and 2 month now, and has told me that she is in love with him and she does not want to be with anybody else as she truly believes she has found the right guy! Do you think the age gap is too much? and do you think that becuase he has had more experiences in relationships this can be overpowering to her as a young lady?

No because she is 19 and an adult. Its also good that she acts different than girls her age. Besides a yr is a long time. Just be happy for her that she is happy. When I was 18 I married a guy that just turned 24. Not as much of age difference, but at least she won't have to put up with the boyish games guys her age do.

No I don't believe the age gap is too much but then again I am 19 and I like older guys and currently am dating a 46 year old and I am madly in love and I am almost possitive that I found the man for me.

Its nice that you are looking out for your friend but you should let her make her own decisions in life. If she says she is in love and he treats her well then the age difference does not matter. Maybe she likes mature guys who actually listen when she speaks and know how to have adult relationships. Lord knows not many 19 year old guys are that mature. All you can do is be there to share in her happiness or be there to pick up the peices if things do happen to go wrong. Thats what friends are for.

I think at 19 someone can be mature enough for this to be ok, although it is just outside my "half plus 7" rule. This applies to males. When a males is between the ages of 22 up to 38, you have to apply the "half plus 7" rule, being that you "halve your age then add 7 years". So I am 30, to apply the rule this means that the youngest age of a girl I can go out with is 22 years. So to your friend, she is not breaking the "half plus 7" rule, but rather her boyfriend is.

She does need counseling . Do you know of anyone older than both of you that she really respects? Perhaps that person could talk to her. I don't care if the man does change he is evil. Anyone who would do that should be in prison for life in my opinion. ( or hung) I understand her concern about her sisters but she can't help anyone else until she is mentally in a better place. She has suffered one of the worst things that can ever happen to a person. You could always print the answer out and then delete the question.

It definitely depends on their personality. I was a very mature 18 when I started dating my boyfriend of 3 years (who is 7 years my senior). We had known eachother forever and things worked out very well. It's hard as a best friend because you are protective. Feel him out for his personality. Does she complain about the way he treats her? Does he like you and her other friends? Is he supportive to her, in school/work? Age is but a number. Only worry if he's a bad guy.

a question for you....why is it any of your business who she dates. unless she is being mentally/physically abused then why should you worry? if you were a true friend and she said she's in love with him...be happy for her!!! thats what she needs a friend!!! being 19 years old...and they've already been dating for over a year. well i think she's perfectly capable of making her own mind up when it comes to dating. how would you feel if she was questioning your choice of dates (espically if you said you were in love)? besides age is just a number. oh and by the way. if shes 19 and he's 31. thats a 12 year age gap. but besides for all of that. good luck with all of your choices in life!!

It really all depends on the individuals that are involved. She is legal as far as the law is concerned. If she is mature enough to handle an older guy, there really shouldn't be a problem. In my experience, guys usually act younger anyway. They have been together over a year already. Things must be alright for them.

She is probably too young for the age difference but nothing that can't happen a few years down the road. The guy, however, may be the one in for the worst emotional rollercoaster as most women her age can't make up their mind very well.
