No. but I have shouted and shaken a large dog before I learned the following:

For bad behaviour, drop a soda can with pennies or small stones in it, onto the floor. The noise will scare the dog a lot.and will stop that particular behaviour.
Keep your hands for giving affection to a dog for good behaviour.
Hope this helps you too.
Cheers!

I don't have a dog. But i work with dogs. It depends on what you mean by hit, but i don't think you should Hurt your dog. I think you should get your dog into obedience if you are having an issue. And sometimes, with dominant dogs, i think a 'tap' on the nose is appropriate if needed. Just to let them know that whatever they are doing is NOT acceptable, and you are the boss. But it is only right with some dogs.

I have never hit my dog but I have whacked him on the nose with the palm of my hand when he tried to bite. When I first got him he would bite really hard when he was playing so I would whack him on the nose. That made him stop and now he never bites.

No, I have never hit my dog. I feel that all a dog wants is to please their owner. If you are upset with it and tell it no, they your pet is sad. If you praise when you are happy with them, then you've made your pet the happiest it can be. My dog is very well behaved and I have never had to hit her to make her listen.

NO...Hitting ANY dog, yours or anyone elses is asking for trouble..Not to mention it is abuse.Eventually, the dog WILL retaliate (and it could be a child that time, who didnt really mean to hurt him--just playing too rough) and whoever is at the other end of the dogs teeth is going to get bitten. BADLY.

Hit, no. A smack on the nose, not hard if they've tried to bite yes, but never anything that could hurt them. The idea is more to startle or get their attention than to hurt them. If its for training a can full of pennies or other loud objects to shake work too.

Dogs do not reason the way children do. When you spank a child for doing wrong, they associate the spanking with their bad behavior and learn not to do it again. When you spank a dog for doing wrong, they do NOT associate it with their bad behavior, and it confuses them and trains them to be completely afraid of you.

I am truly beyond ashamed to say i once bopped my dog on the nose after a really bad day for me and some pretty obnoxious behavior on her part. Luckily she forgave me and licked my tears away when I apologized to her.
On a lighter note (you will see when you finish the story), when I was younger there were two boys on our street who used to throw rocks at our dogs through the fence. One day, one of the boys was in our house and my dog went right up to him and bit him pretty hard in the a$$. My family laughed really hard (after making sure the kid was okay) and his family knew that the kid deserved it for his poor behavior. Needless to say, they never bothered our dogs again.

No way! I have a Jack Russell Terrier. There are other ways to handle bad behavior. Do not hit your pets!
