Explain this verse

1 Timothy 4
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Do not be deceived folks.

Hebrews 10:26-27
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

I agree with you that God requires that we run the race and walk in the light as He is in the light. I think we must be careful, though. Some look at these verses and then I believe incorrectly see themselves as living the spiritual life of a yo yo. If I sin then I'm lost unless I ask forgiveness quickly. And if I die before I ask for forgiveness then I'm in big trouble. I basically jump in and out of salvation. This person when asked "do you KNOW that you are saved?" will say "I don't know for sure." How sad this type of fear is in the life of a Christian. Jesus came to FREE us from fear of condemnation.

Romans 8:1 is breathtaking. "Therefore, there is now NO CONDEMNATION for those in Christ Jesus." What does it mean to be in Christ Jesus? Read the book of Romans. The entire book is breathtaking. We read there "If we walk in the light as He is in the light we are cleansed of our sins." The Greek here indicates a continual ongoing cleansing.

If you will read Romans 8 it speaks of two types of men. The man who has his mind set on the Spirit. And the man who has his mind set on the flesh. The man who has his mind set on the spirit keeps constantly looking to Jesus. He will surely sin and fall but when he does fail he picks himself back up, dusts himself off and presses forward again toward the goal. Sinning all the way to heaven but trying to draw closer to God with every failure.

The man who has his mind set on the flesh has no desire to submit to the will of God. He may occasionally do good deeds but they will be of no benefit to him because he is not "in Christ Jesus."

Read Galatians 5:4. Here the author is talking about Christians who were once Jews and are now returning to following the old law. He says to them, "You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ, you have fallen away from grace"

So yes it is possible for a Christian to turn away from their walk and begin to set their mind on the flesh. This Christian is at risk of losing their salvation. But don't let this make you fearful or unsure of your salvation. We can KNOW we are saved by simply examining our hearts. If our minds are set on the spirit God continually cleanses us of our sins and our salvation is ASSURED not because of my efforts but because I am in Christ Jesus.

Okay read it more carefully. First verse should be read like this: some shall depart from the truth." Which means they will not be preaching the truth or love the truth. Nor will they receive the truth. So they never received it to begin with. Second verse, " for if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth".......did you get that? They heard what they needed to know about the truth but that doesn't mean they received the truth. They just received the knowledge of it.They knew what they should do to be saved but rejected it. So that means they weren't saved to start off with. Third verse I don't see the connection.
Once saved always saved: Read John 10:27-30. Jesus is saying that His Father gave Him those who are born again and that as powerful as God the Father is He can't even pluck us out of Jesus's hand and neither can we with our sin. If God can't,we can't when we sin. And Jesus and God are one. They are one in the same. What Jesus did on the cross is a done deal for those who accept His free gift. No matter what.

We must understand that we walk in two dimensions when we are saved, the spiritual and vertical relationship with God and the physical and horizontal relationship with other peoples. In our relationship with God we are 'in Jesus' and this is the grace gift (ie salvation) we have eternally when we accepted Jesus as our Savior which we can never lose. In our horizontal relationship we are commanded to be like Jesus (ie our character and our conduct must be like Him) when we act towards other people. 1 Tim 4:1-3 speaks about our walk of faith in our horizontal relationship with other people and therefore we depart from the faith in the horizontal and not the vertical relationship. It deals with the issue of not being a good witness of our faith not that we lose our salvation.
If you read Heb 10:26-29 the wilful sin is not accepting Jesus as the Son of God and Messiah and obviously there is no other way to salvation. Verses 28 and 29 compares the rejection of Moses and the rejection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is clear in the context.
You have not and it cannot be debunked that once saved we are always saved. Such belief devalues and undermines the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. It is all finished, we are eternally saved and Christ Jesus has sat down because His work is finished! Halleluyah!

1 Timothy, I don't think he was talking about born again Christians here. A lot of people go to church, but aren't saved.

When you sin do you know about it before you do it? Have you ever thought about doing something bad, that is a sin, and went ahead and did it anyway?

Is that not wilfully sinning? You knew it was a sin right?

Some Jews were trying to get others to go back to their old ways of animal sacrifices, as a way to clear their sins. But they were told once they have heard about Jesus Christ dieing for their sins, then they could never go back. They had received the knowledge of the truth. What Truth? The truth that Jesus Christ was the only way to have your sins forgiven.

The bible shows a difference between inherited sin, and will full sin. From these sins we must be repentant, which would involve our every effort to avoid this weakness, starting with heartfelt prayer, and asking for forgiveness.
If once saved always saved were true, then I'd have NO worries. Its sort of like saying if I die, it must have been my time. If that were the case, then why do we hide from tornado's? Or jump out of an airplane without a parachute.

There is no such concept

2 Tim. 1:9 - He saved us and called us through grace and not by virtue of our own works outside of His grace.

Titus 3:5 - He saved us in virtue of His own mercy, and not by our deeds... These are all i can find on the concept of saved and they are arguable.

compared to

1 Cor. 1:18 - for the word of the cross is folly to those perishing, but for to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. Salvation is not a one-time event. It is a process of perseverance through faith, hope and love.

2 Cor. 2:15 - for we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved. Salvation is a continual process.

Phil. 2:12 - we are working out our salvation through fear and trembling. Salvation is an ongoing process.

1 Peter 1:9 - you obtain the salvation of your souls as the outcome of your faith. Working out our salvation in fear and trembling is a lifelong process.

and

Matt. 10:22, 24:13; Mark 13:13 - again, Jesus taught that we must endure to the very end to be saved. Salvation is a past, present and future event (not a one-time event at an altar call).

Mark 16:16 – Jesus says whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.

Acts 15:11 - we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus.

Rom. 5:9-10 - since we are justified by His blood, we shall be saved.

Rom. 13:11 - salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. How can we be only nearer to something we already have?

1 Cor. 3:15 - he will be saved, but only as through fire.

1 Cor. 5:5 - Paul commands the Church to deliver a man to satan, that he will be saved in the day of the Lord.

2 Tim. 2:11-12 - if we endure, we shall also reign with Him. This requires endurance until the end of our lives.

Heb. 9:28 - Jesus will appear a second time to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him.

James 5:15 - the sacrament of the sick will save the sick man and the Lord will raise him up.

"Once saved, always saved" is a catchy slogan however it is a FALSE DOCTRINE that is being used to LURE and mislead others into believing the FALSE HOPE of "guaranteed salvation" by simply joining a particular church group.

It's like saying that once you get baptized by that church, you can go right back to your old ways, or commit all sorts of sins [including murder!] AND STILL BE SAVED just the same!

Yet many continue to be deceived by such falsehood...

Peace be with you.

Kudos for understanding this concept. Mankind will always have their free agency . . . how many times did Israel follow the Lord and then stray? People can make such choices as well.
