The answer you seek will vary with:

the antibiotic used

the dose given

the route of administration (oral or by injection - intravenous or intramuscular etc) and whether the medicine undergoes first pass metabolism

your body size and body fat

the function of your organs of elimination - ie your kidneys and liver

any other medications/drugs which you take which can affect the medicine itself or may affect the kidney or liver function in eliminating it from the body

Good question but the answer is very complex. It varies depending upon the antibiotic you are taking. Each antibiotic has a known 1/2 life and that will vary based upon how often your Dr has told you to take the drug. Then it varies depending upon the other drugs you are taking because there is a special part of your liver that metabolizes all the drugs and if you are taking 2 or 3 drugs that portion of the liver is busy metabolizing all of the drug so the half life of the antibiotic will be longer. If you have kidney problems that will also change the rate of the half life of the drug.

I hope that helped some. Your question would be much easier to answer if you had given me the name of the drug.

I am not sure, but the side effects can linger. Antibiotics really ruin the healthy gut flora and you need to replace it before other problems develop. You can do so with yogurt or a good probiotic from a health food store. Stay away from sugar for a while too.
