If you believe in god, I would think you would want to strive for both.
It seems to me that doing what would make god happy would make you happy too.

It is not your religion that matters. No religion on this planet will save you. It is your relationship with God. Think of it like this When you hold a party you invite your friends you hang out with. not the friends you know of. the friends you hang out with daily or the ones you have a close relationship with. you let to the party. God is the same way. Just because you are part of a religion but spend no time with God means NOTHING if you won't spend your measley little life with him here what makes you think you can hang for an eternity? It is realationship not religion.

But there is a difference, as most 'Christians' have a religion that makes them happy, and they could not care less about what God wants. My religion is the one that God Himself set forth in the Bible, and not one handed down to me by the Catholics.

well that doesnt really make sense. if you are atheist you dont even believe in god so why would it matter if he was happy or not. if you are a christian and you choose to be a christian than obviously god is happy. if you choose to be anything else like budda or whatever they still believe in god so in that religion god is happy. in different religions there are different gods and all of them, im guessing, would be happy to have you. of course, if you believe there is only one god and you choose to be a different religion, you would still believe that god is unhappy with your desicion and that would defeat the whole purpose.
this question is so irrelevant.

Ideally speaking, religion should make us happy by bringing us closer to God. Finding and choosing one in which we feel closest to God can be a long quest. Personally, I think God is a loving parent who will take us any way we are willing to come to Him.

Well, that really depends on what you think 'god' is. If you think that GOD is radically different than you, so different, in fact, that your happiness goes against its nature, then you have created an impossible dilemna, for you will always struggle to try to please someone else, instead of yourself. However, if you believe that you are an aspect of 'God', a part of what makes god, God, then your happiness is God's happiness, for your happiness becomes an aspect of the 'god' happiness. Btw, if 'God' doesn't want you to be happy, what purpose does 'heaven' serve?

If we're making God happy, then we should be happy. For the only purpose we really have on this earth is to serve God and win souls to Him since He is our creator and the reason we live.

Religion is up to you. You should search for a religion that you think is right. Also you need to understand religion because I personally consider religion 'rules' under a belief and the belief is christianity. Therefore you need to figure out what you think is right because the bible never says what religion we need to have.
