Without more info re which specific movies you mean -- for example do the dark movies include ones like Dark City, Pitch Black and Sin City (i.e. intentionally dark), and the light ones include films like Kingdom of Heaven and Dances with Wolves (i.e. lots of outdoor shots) -- it is hard to say.

Assuming you do not change projector settings between movies, I would have to say it is because the director chose to convey a dark mood to the picture and the differences are intentional.

If, on the other hand all movies are dark, or darker than you would like, it is more likely you ar projecting on too big a screen, one with too low a gain, the lamp on your projector should be replaced, or a combination of the foregoing.

Hope this helps.

First of all the only movies that would be interesting on a projector are military/war movies in japan or somthing. But about your question i have no clue....
