I like to add sour cream to my mashed potatoes along with what you already have listed.
Make mashed potatoes, fry some onions in a fry pan in butter until they are translucent then add to mashed potatoes, top with cheese.

Here's my recipe for Garlic Mashed Potatoes:
4 Idaho potatoes peeled and chopped into a large dice.
6 ounces heavy cream
3 ounces butter
6- 8 cloves garlic
Salt and pepper to taste
Bring the potatoes to a boil and simmer until tender. Finely chop the garlic and simmer it in the cream and butter for about three minutes. Strain the pieces of garlic from the cream. Pass the cooked potatoes through a food mill or a ricer. Add the cream to the potatoes and mix until smooth. Add salt and pepper to taste.

This is similar to recipe that I make all the time. You can substitue herbs, cheeses, etc. depending on what you have on hand. Happy Thankgiving!

Company mashed potatoes Recipe #73134
I recently made this recipe when I was having guests for dinner who had informed me they might be late. It was perfect. It held well in a 200 degrees oven for 45 minutes and turned out great! It's easy too. The original recipe calls for green onions, I used chives, it also called for cheddar cheese, I only had grated colby/jack and that was fine too. A forgiving recipe! From an old Farm Journal cookbook.

6 servings
1 hour 30 min prep
4 cups hot seasoned mashed potatoes
1 cup sour cream
1/3 cup snipped chives (or green onions)
4 ounces cheddar cheese, cut into 1/4 inch cubes
1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt
Combine potatoes, sour cream, chives (or green onions) and cheese.
Turn into a greased, 1 1/2-qt casserole; sprinkle with seasoned salt.
*Bake in a 350° oven for 25 minutes.
*A this point, you may refrigerate until baking time, or if they are baked and ready before serving time, you can hold them in a low temp oven.

This is a blend of 2 of my favorite mashed potatoe recipes -
12 large potatoes
1 8 oz btl Horseradish
1 8 oz pckg Blue Cheese crumbles
1 carton of heavy whipping cream
Salt
Pepper
Boil the skinned potatoes for about 3 hours. Mash. Whip with heavy whipping cream. While whipping, add blue cheese and about 5 tbsp of horseradish. Add salt and pepper to taste.
This is a great recipe for those who do and don't like gravy - it goes so well with either.

I have been cooking for a long time and everyone loves what i cook and i tried Idahoan premium mashed potato's, they are the best, peeling, boiling and they mashing potato is a pain in the rear, and then after all that sometimes they come4 out like glue, forget it, all you do with the Idahoans is one cup of potato flakes and 2 cups of boiling water and thats it , I swear they taste better than homemadeand they come in all different flavors
