No, you are not alone. Boys are constantly getting into things and pushing the limits. Things happen to kids all the time, even though we try to be as protective as possible. It is a part of growing up. (broken bones, stitches, bicycle wrecks, etc.)
As long as you try to teach your son that these things can happen and he needs to be more careful, things will work out.
Every child is different, every one has a different personality, they learn at different rates, they grow at different rates, some are easy to keep up with, while others are more difficult.
We just have to do the best we can by teaching them what we learned growing up.
Just remember, we all feel like bad parents at some point, and if we went around thinking what perfect parents we are all the time, then we would be lying to ourselves.
Don't doubt yourself.
I wish you the best of luck with your son.

I feel like a bad mother when I lose patience with my extremely independent 3 year old. My 14 year old is a breeze to handle, but I just feel like I'm doing something wrong because I lose patience with someone I love so much it hurts. But it only lasts a few minutes and after I breathe deeply for a bit, it works out.
