Dumb me? Bought mussels 5 days ago and threw them in the freezer - can I cook them? My first instinct was to put them in with the other frozen foods. Now I want to cook them tomorrow - they are in the refrigerator now. Can I still cook them?

Of course you can! How do you think us Mainers are able to get them to your stores and still call them "fresh"? Whenever I drive by this specific area during low tide, I stop and get some muscles, and put them on a cooler on ice. Most of the time, by the time I get them home and out of the car they are mostly frozen. It's called packed on ice and it keeps them fresh as the day you got em! Eat em up, my friend. Just like any other meat. Good luck!!!

To cut through a lot of drivel, yes, go ahead and cook them. Mussels are, after all, a type of fresh water oyster. Forget about all of the myth and superstition and enjoy your meal of them.

Yes. Cook them the same way you would as if they were still alive. My husband has been a professional fisherman for a LONG time, and he advised me to tell you that they'd be just fine.

Putting them in the frig for a day is good. Then tomorrow just steam them. I always do that.

I'm no expert, but I think if you froze them immediately (while they were still alive (bleh...)) you're probably OK.
