You can have one carry on bag and one "personal item," like a purse, computer, day pack, etc. Provided the purse isn't the size of a duffle bag, you're fine.

If you are flying from the United States it should be fine. If you are flying out of the UK you may have a problem. I flew out of Scotland a couple of weeks ago and I had a purse and a carryon. When we got to security I was told that everything had to be in one bag. I had to take my hat and jacket out of my carryon and put my purse inside. After I got through I could seperate them. One of my clients had the same thing happen in London. You might want to check with your airline if you do live in the UK.

On a funny note, I had 4 lipsticks in my purse. They let me keep them, but I had to put each one on to prove they were really lipsticks. I looked like a clown!

the FAA rule is one carry on and one personal item so if you have a bag and a purse yes that is fine but if you already have say a bag a brief case and a purse then on you will not be able to take one. that is the rule for all US flights there might be different rules for international flights
