I grew up in norcal, but have lived in socal for 9 years. I've visited SF many times over the years. I personally feel that SF is much prettier and more convenient than LA, but at the same time, people in SF seem much more uptight, arrogant, introverted and overly proud. I can say that LA is superficial and very spread out, but the people seem generally more open, outgoing and fun than SF people. What's your opinion and why?

SF has more eccentric, amusing, intelligent people than LA.
In one short year since I moved here in SF, I attended educational museum openings, met anti-war protesters, participated and enjoyed the Bay to Breakers marathon, met ex-hippies running a hole-in-the-wall brewery supply store, starred as a zombie extra in a movie, a Viking who thinks he can speak "espanol", a co-worker who makes indie films on the side, 2 gay guys who always dress and speak eloquently, well mannered people who open doors for others and acknowledges other people with a "hello" or a "hi" with a smile. They often speak using words that I've only studied for the SATs. The animals are well taken care of at the local SPCA where they even have support groups for bereaved pet owners and they even help you find apartments that allow pets.

In LA where I lived for the past 20+ years, the language
that should bind us all together is long gone and has been replaced with alienating differences. To conservative types, LA people are predominantly ill-considerate, displaying no manners to speak of. The children run amok in restaurants and theater performances. My filipino neighbors hosted weekly outdoor karaoke contest for their 35+ relatives and my hispanic neighbors on the other side had quincenita debutante party and god knows what else with the speakers blasting Ranchero musica all over the once quiet neighborhood. The quality of public service is close to non-existant and the doctors, the lawyers, the accountants see you as just another cash cow
and they're not afraid to show it. In SF, they at least pretend like they care about your well-being.

LA people more fun and outgoing? People around you are like mirrors and they reflect what you show them, wherever you go. Maybe it's you who changed your attitude toward people after you moved down to soCal. You're neither wrong or right, since everyone needs a place where they feel comfortable and fit right in.

I was raised & live in a suburb of San Francisco and just returned from L.A and though I don't care for it I have to admit that all of the people that I came in contact with, most of them Hispanic, were very respectful, nice, helpful and friendly. I love the bay area but a lot of people up here are so uptight and unfriendly especially in the city of SF. I avoid going there. My favorite city is NYC, it is the most exciting place and I love visiting it & the people are very friendly and fun.

If there are significant differences (and I'm not convinced they are as prevalent as you say, since L.A. and S.F. share a common set of materialistic values and 'blue' politics), I think it comes down to migration patterns and the "sponge" effect. The majority of the people living in both Los Angeles and San Francisco are not native-born Californians. They all come from somewhere else...

San Francisco is really popular with elitest Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern types, while Los Angeles attracts a lot of wayward Southerners and folks escaping the Midwest. And they bring their attitudes with them.

LA is only superficial on the westside. other poor areas aren't so into that. But anyways, LA is so diverse. Rich people. Poor people. Smart people. Dumb people. etc. So you can't really judge. Generalizing though, I find I like SoCal better than NoCal. That may have to do with my entire life based here so I'm a bit partial..

nicely, i do no longer stay in L.A., yet I stay close to San Francisco, that's in California.. haha. i don't be attentive to how this could this help.. California surprisingly plenty has costly properties. It only relies upon the place you purchase you place. My pal has a 2 mattress room unit (that's form of like an residence) and he or she will pay around $1500/month. of direction, there are extra reasonably-priced places, yet do no longer assume something under $800.. i myself observed some fees of homes at around 100k over different places, maximum places listed under are a minimum of 700k for a great 3 mattress room abode, in a sprint suburb. climate is definitely effective. i myself went to ny for a iciness day, and that i substitute into like a fish out of water, none of my clothing have been heat adequate for brand spanking ny's climate. chilly for me could be around 60 tiers, which does no longer happen many times. it extremely is often in around previous due december/early January. i think of the backside I ever experienced substitute into fifty 5 tiers. in general around the twelve months, it extremely is a average 70-eighty tiers. summer season's are not too warm, usual around eighty-ish tiers, which isn't that warm. There are ninety degree days nonetheless. I dunno, approximately la, yet i'm hoping this a technique or the different enables you image what California is like. Sorry... :/

dude, there are billions of people in the world! all with different character, personalities, and the like. i don't think you can generalize a group of people by their geopraphical location. i'm sure there are a zillion superficial people in sf and the same goes for l.a, just as there are lots of 'cool' people in both cities. just my two cents.
