It's a syndrome, not the flu. Antibiotics will not get rid of it, but there are medications that can help relieve some of the symptoms.

Zelnorm is an excellent medicine to reduce the bloating, which in turn reduces the pain, it also is designed to help the body's digestive process happen more naturally without the constipation. IBS can be affected by stress, so some may say antidepressants etc. but try Zelnorm too. I ended up in the ER 2 times in 24 hours once b/c of severe pain before dx'd.

I suffer from IBS also have done for many years, It gets that way I do not like to stay overnight at anyone's house. It is a very embarrassing problem.
You have to watch your diet, eat plenty of fruit and veggies, no fattie foods. There is a supplement you can buy from the Health Food stores, called IBS support. It has good bacteria in it, to help control the symptoms, but it will not cure it. there is no cure, just a good diet,Eat healthy! Good Luck
