Mine is Sugar Cream Pie....I can't attend a holiday without bring this or I would be running for my life and it's very simple and they think I work so hard! Ha ha!

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 cup milk
1 cup half and half
1 stick butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 9" pie shell - baked
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar

Mix sugar and cornstarch in sauce pan.
Add milk and half and half.
Stir untill smooth.
Then cook untill thickened. (Once it starts to get hot, keep stirring! It will scorch)
Remove from heat.
Add butter and vanilla and stir untill smooth.
Pour into baked pie shell.

Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle some on top of pie....not too much, just alittle or it is way to sweet. Just make it look pretty. Not all of this mixture will be used.

Bake at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes.
(hint-when it is done, you get bubbles forming on the top)
Let cool and then keep cool in the fridge.

Found out one cold snowy night that this is good warm in a bowl. Not too much though as it is very rich. Was making alot of pies and had alittle left over and we tried this while watching christmas cartoons. My kids still remember that. Enjoy!

Mine is an appetizer a Puff Pastry with Mushrooms and blue cheese -

1 roll of Phyllo dough
1 pckg Reg white mushrooms
2 Portabello mushrooms
1 pckg of blue cheese crumbles
2 sticks of butter
1 bottle of port wine

Thaw out the Phyllo dough (if frozen). This usually takes about 3 hours.

Preheat oven at 350 degrees.

Saute' mushrooms in a pan with a stick of butter (4 tbsp) and 1 cup of wine for about 20 - 25 minutes.

Heat the second stick of butter until all melted.

Lay 3 or 4 sheets of phyllo on top of eachother. Put tbsp of mushrooms on top layer. Add tsp of blue cheese as well. Wrap it up with top layer of phyllo, brush butter on that layer and wrap it with the second. Lightly butter the top and wrap it again. Repeat until you run out of mushrooms or phyllo sheets.
*You may wrap the pastry into any shape you like. I do traditional rectangles.

They take between 20 and 30 minutes to bake.

This recipe is what I always do when taking something to someone else's house for Thanksgiving. It's always a hit!

A great recipe for mashed potatoes (just to spice it up!) is when mashing potatoes, cook with cream (not water or milk!) and add horseradish sauce and blue cheese. It's awesome!

I use bagged stuffing and use chicken or veggie broth instead of water. I add onion, shrooms, pepper, corn, celery, shredded carrrots and finely cubed potatos to the boiling water and cook thru before adding the stuffing. I have never had left over stuffing at thanksgiving. No matter how much I make it all gets eaten.

Cheesy Smashed Potatoes
I use teeny tiny new potatoes - boil 10 minutes in the skins. I coarsely smash them, add salt and pepper, butter, a couple tablespoons of Cream of Mushroom soup concentrate and chopped chives. Yummmmmmmmmm!
