Chromium helps stop your craving

http://www.ultimatefatburner.com/natural-weight-loss/chromium.html

The site reads:

"Chromium picolinate (actually, just about any sort of chromium will do, although the newer and more effective chromium nicotinate is your best bet!), is probably one of my most favorite weight loss supplements. I'm very rarely without it. Best of all, chromium picolinate is cheap (less than $6.00 at our store), effective, and for those with carbohydrate-cravings, a veritable lifesaver.

What does chromium picolinate or nicotinate do, exactly? Well, you may have seen ads claiming this miracle supplement will help build lean muscle and burn fat. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of evidence indicating this is the case. Nonetheless, chromium picolinate is far from a worthless supplement.

Chromium is an essential trace mineral that is found in tiny amounts in the typical diet. In fact, it's estimated that nearly 90% of North Americans are deficient in chromium.

So what, right?

Wrong.

Chromium plays an important part in insulin function - it helps insulin regulate blood sugar levels. It's also involved in carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism. What does thisreally mean to the average dieter? If you experience uncontrollable cravings for sweet or sugared foods, have periods of fatigue or irritability, or have difficulty concentrating throughout the day...

You're probably insulin resistant, or hypoglycemic. Basically, this means the body has difficulty dealing with vast amounts of blood sugar that are released quickly into the bloodstream as a result of the typical North American diet -- one filled with refined sugars and flours, saturated fats, and highly processed foods. This means the body is primed to store calories/glucose as fat.

There are two things you can do about this... first, eliminate junk foods, processed foods, and highly refined foods (including white breads, pastas, etc.), and replace them with high fiber grains, beans, and vegetables. Eat many small meals throughout the day, and always include a lean protein source (like chicken, turkey, fish, lean beef) with each meal. The other is to implement a chromium supplement into your diet. Here's a couple of quality products, courtesy of my favorite online store...

In fact...

Chromium picolinate (again, any decent chromium supplement will work well), is something I suggest you look into making a cornerstone of *any* further dieting efforts (200 mcg no more than 2-3 times a day, otherwise you run the risk of toxicity). When I was experiencing cravings for high-sugar/high fat junk foods, I was only able to combat these cravings with sheer determination and willpower. And of course, every few days, I'd be unable to control myself, and eat half a bag of Oreos (or something similar).

Chromium picolinate eliminated these cravings virtually overnight - to the point where the really intense cravings were no longer something I experienced. I kid you not... my favorite supplement!

Special Note: I've recently become very impressed with alpha lipoic acid as an alternative to chromium. Please click here to read the review of alpha lipoic acid."

Depending on what else you eat in a day and if you are eating sweets for every meal or drinking a lot of soda....you may gain weight if you over do it....it is very hard to break the sugar addiction because sugar and corn syrup is in almost everything nowadays. Almost all of your pre packages meals in the super market like mac and cheese, rice a roni, etc......there are too many books and articles on this subject to list. Good luck!

What I noticed is that sugar is highly addictive. It seems the more you ingest, the more you want. I eliminated sugar from my diet slowly. I started by leaving it out of my morning coffee. I then switched to diet sodas instead of the regular ones. It happened slowly, but the less sugar I consumed, the less I craved it. I did it in baby steps because I was like you, and felt my sugar comsumption was getting out of hand, but was afraid quiting cold turkey would turn me into a total *****.

Enjoy fruits instead. But take note that certain fruits have higher glycaemic index than other fruits, so its better to eat fruits with low glycaemic index. Examples are apples, kiwifruits...
