We have been dating for 5 months, been friends for 3 1/2 years... I've met his family & he’s met my close family. For thanksgiving my whole family in town is going to get together & he had been saying that he wants to meet my family. So I invited him to come. He asked his mother & well his mother must think I’m deaf or something because she responded “she is not your wife to be making decisions like that". I took it offensively. It hurt that she judged me on an invitation. I merely INVITED him... I never made a DESICION. My boyfriend apologized for his mother’s remark. But it hurts to be judged
Here’s the thing. Am I over reacting on what his mother said? Or is she right? Did I come to strong?I’ve seen it from her point of view & I understand how she can feel that I’m taking her last son away for the holiday and it was too sudden for her.But I guess I just wanted to spend our first holiday together.Any thoughts?should i have put my boyfriend in the place of choosing his mother or me?

NOOOO, don`t ever make him decide. If he chooses than it needs to be without YOUR help!
I think his mother was way out of line with that comment. Try not to worry too much about it, it sounds like you have a great boyfriend there! If you want you can have a talk with her and tell her that you didn`t mean to "step on her toes", you are simply in love with her son and wanted to be with him on this important day.

his mother was totally out of line.. guess his mother still thinks she owns her son and has full control over him.. gimme a break!

you did nothing wrong.. 5 months of dating is long enough to consider meeting the other family and spending holidays together.

i don't think the mother was judging you personally. she is simply being a typical mother that thinks "no girl will ever be good enough for my son" but you can't let that bother you.. you'll never be able to please her, so do your best to avoid her.

if she becomes to much of an interfearance in your relationship though, you may have to pull the plug.

you did nothing wrong by inviting him, his mother is being over protective and all that jazz. You didnt put your bf in that spot, or he wouldnt have asked to go to your house for thanksgiving. dont take it too personally, and try to ignore it.
