So I have super thick hair. I keep it short or else it'll turn into some weird afro. Basically I just want to do something different with my hair. I try spiking my hair sometimes, but I don't really care about it that much. Also causes a lot of dandruff and stuff for me.

So what else can I try? Should I grow it out and then try straightening it? I appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Okay sweetie... here goes...

Your hair doesn't 'grow up'. The longer the hair gets, the more weight is on it, therefore, it lays down. it's the same way with woman, that's why our hair is sooo easy to spike. I'd suggest letting it grow. While letting it grow, buy some good gel - Bed Head - Matrix to name a couple of awesome brands. Try out different styles. The next time you want it cut, ask your stylist to 'thin' the top of your hair for you. Try the 'wet look' - slick the hair down forward (towards your face), spike the bang area. I wish you luck!!! Let me know if you need more help.

Oh and it doesn't cause dandruff. Dandruff is a disease, not something that comes and goes. What your experiencing it dry scalp. Pick up some Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo. Use it once or twice a week to help with dry scalp. If need be, print this out and take it to your stylist. She/He can show you the products you need and how to style your hair.

Nice pic. For the dandruff, instead of using dandruff products, try using "all natural" shampoo and conditioner. You might not even have dandruff, just a dry scalp. There are also some components of a lot of shampoos that can irritate your scalp. Try your local health food store for the shampoo, kinda depends on where you live as to the availability. Wild Oats Market always has decent shampoos. As for your hair, it looks great short, and you won't have to bother with it. you can grow it out and have it chemically straightened so you don't have to worry about it, but still i don't know what happens with new growth, talk to a hairdresser. If you don't want to do that, you can always use a good moisturizing conditioner when you shampoo, then use a straightening product while your hair is still wet, and blow it dry or air dry, then it won't be frizzy, just curly. Good luck :D

Who cares about hair. You look fine.

In any case, be glad you have thick hair (no balding!).
