I initially always thought i had lower back pain, but then a friend pointed out it was my kidneys. I'm a 24 year old male, and i do drink alcohol often, and i've realised that the pain occurs on days after i've been drinking (and yes, i do realise i should just stop drinking, but it's still not normal, surely?)

you need to see a doc. I am not gonna preach about drinking and all but yeah sounds like it is from that. Could be an infection or stones although I think kidney stones would hurt way more! If there is an infection sometimes cranberries or the juice can help clear things up. However, you sound past the help of cranberries.

It's Not normal, you could have kidney stones or damage from the alcohol. Do you drink enough water in a day? The pain could also be caused from drinking too much sugary products and your kidneys aren't processing it. GET TO A DOCTOR.

I don't want to scare you, but this is how my kidney failure showed itself. They began to hurt, but on and off...the pain always went away. I ignored it, but eventually through a test my doctor had me take found out the function had dipped. I would really consult with a doctor. He may ask you if there's a history of kidney (renal) failure in your family history, or if you ever had been on some certain medication that needed the levels monitored. Or, maybe you just slept wrong.

Growing up in a family that has kidney disease that runs in it, and I'm one of the ones who has the kidney disease. Go to a doctor as soon as possible. You might not have a kidney disease, it could just be kidney stones, but if you were to have a kidney disease Drinking makes it worse. With the kidney disease I have you are not suppose to drink as it can lead to the cyst rupturing and cause excrusiating pain not to mention what it does to your liver. I have PKD by the way! Definitely STOP DRINKING Though!!!!!

I have had that! Feels like someone has punched you right in the small of the back. I only got it after a big session, drink loads of water and lay off or cut back on the booze for a couple of days. If it carries on, go see a doctor

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
