Once upon a time there lived a Gelada Baboon called Ralph.

Tiered of falling out of high trees, off mountain sides and plummeting to the ground, Ralph went to the local library to try and find a book about leaping large distances. On the way to the sports and recreation section he became lost, and ended up in Children's Fiction.

Now Ralph, though well read , had problems with spelling. He spotted a large number of books of tales and some omnibuses so borrowing them all , he leapt onto one of the omnibuses and was soon back home.

Ralph scaled back up the high cliffs and there he lived happily ever after, the envy of all other Baboons, for now he had a tale for every day of the year

A long time ago there was a wild monkey who villagers called 'Thief'. This is because he was very well known for his mischievous behaviour. The villagers always wanted to capture and punish him for stealing food.

One evening unexpectedly, Thief the monkey was hungry and decided to steal food from the villagers. A villager spotted him and was planning to capture him. However, Thief was too quick for the villagers to capture. In the end Thief escaped from the villagers. On his way back, Thief stumbled upon a rock and fell on his bottom. A few days passed and Thief realised that a lump appeared on his bottom. It was on the same place where he had fallen on. Day after day, the lump grew bigger and bigger until it looked like a tail.

Unable to get rid of his tail, Thief grew to acknowledge the 'new part' of his body and learnt to appreciate it. Due to his bravery in escaping the villagers, Thief became a hero in the 'monkey world'. His sons, grandsons and great grandsons were also born with this 'new' tail, which became a tradition.

So this is how a monkey got his tail.

One day God made the monkey and he said you may have a tail. So there was the tail!
