before you start crucifying me consider asking yourself this question . Had Jesus died by guillotine instead of being staked to the cross would Christians be walking around with little guillotines around their necks or would the priests be kissing guillotines as they deliver their sermons at the same time motioning with their hand to the back of their necks as if they were chopping their head off like they do the motioning with the cross when they kiss it then touch their forehead down to the stomach and then to each shoulder? Call me crazy but a cross is perhaps more evil than the guillotine in that the guillotine is a quick and painless death , and the cross is a slow and agonizing one.

the questions was, is the cross holy or just another tool of murder ?

the guillotine was just an example to help you see my point of view incase you are blinded by the glory of the cross .

Jesus had to die a public death so he could come back to life and prove He has power over death. Crucifixion was meant to be a very public death. It's main purpose was to let other potential troublemakers know how they would be dealt with if they broke the law.

The guillotine had not yet been invented so that form of execution could not even be considered. Beheading was done at that time but its just not as public. The Romans wanted the death to be slow and horrible to terrify people into obedience.

The cross today is a symbol and nothing more. Symbols are meant to make us think of an event in its proper perspective. In this case to remember the sacrifice of Jesus with respect and humility.

I would rather face the guillotine, I think most would. It appears the Romans had no interest in giving Jesus an easy time.

Well He knew that it wasnt easy he knew it would not be quick and he went like as St Augustine has said Like a bridegroom going to his wedding. He went knowing and was ready.
IF your not a Christian why ask? If you were one once and are angry, let it go Go be a Buddist. If its just an innocent question then it is a good one there are no stupid questions. The point isnt the cross the point is he went knowing how incredibly horrible it would be. Thats why preists kiss crosses. They are thanking him for his sacrifice.

For one, this gets asked 20 times a day... (c'mon atheists... need more originality and thought now ok?)

For two, only Catholics kiss crosses, other Christian denominations only see it as a reminder of what Jesus did for us.

For three, If Jesus was put in the electric chair for our sins, yeah, we'd use that as a reminder too. Why would it be any different?

It is an evil tool for murder. The early church was eager to win converts. Mass movements require easy-to-remember symbols, not intellectual speeches etc. The cross is not holy.

It's not the symbol that is evil, but the power-hungry people who use it as an excuse to do evil things.
The KKK used the Rebel Flag in a similar fashion. No-one thinks the flag is evil - just the deluded moron waving it.

People have the signes of the cross as a rememberence of what all Christ had to do and go through for us, just becuase of our individual sin. People wear the cross sometimes as a sign of thankfulness and rememberence of Christ.

The cross had been a pagan symbol even before Christendom copied it.

You can believe what you want about religious symbols, but for those who wear a crucifix, it is an outward sign of their faith. Without belief, this symbol offers no meaning, but to the believer, it is everything.
