Each is a separate country but collectively known as The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The beautiful Island of Ireland consists of two parts: Eire, the southern part, and Ulster, the north part...and I'm not going to go into any detail as to why one is part of the UK and the other isn't!

Don't class yourself as an ignorant American as there are plenty who live here who do not know how the United Kingdom is made up!

Scotland and England are not the same at all. They used to be separate countries, but now both are part of Great Britain. There is also a strong political movement in Scotland that seeks independence from Great Britain. If that movement succeeds, they will become an independent nation.

Yes and no. The capital of Scotland is actually London, however Scotland is a seperate entity within the United Kingdom. Wales is considered to be a Principality of England, but like Scotland, is gaining its own autonomoy.

A patroitic Scotsman would be howling for your blood at the thought of Scotland being a part of England!
