Mexico brings in 40,000 Guatemalan guest workers each year, and when you ask the big coffee growers in Chiapas why they don't hire local people because the unemployment rate is high, they say they won't work hard. They're irresponsible, you can't count on them, the same thing that growers say in this country about Americans."

Yes, I have heard this before and have read it in the news. In fact, if the illegals who are presently in the US get that much hinted at "amnestsy," you can bet even more of them will no longer do the work "Americans won't do." No siree! In fact, there will be a new tidal wave of even more illegal immigrants than ever before to take the place of the "previous" illegal immigrants, all hoping to also receive amnesty in another 10 or 20 years. This is just another carrot dangling in the faces of illegal immigrants.

It is a circle, and it is one of the mechanisms that is destroying the family farm. I went to collage to study vocational agriculture, but because of the up rise in corporate farms, I now have a carer in Industrial Maintenance/ Fabrication. I do love what I do, but the bottom line is, this is all greed driven, and the bad part is these people that are migrating to the north, are as much a victim as the American citizens. The truth be known the cycle needs to be broken.

I've got an answer for that, better farm planning, and start working with Japan to build ag-bots. And, let's construct fence-bot, too, a fence-building machine, and fire it up in Texas and let it run 'til it hits California...

Here too. That is why agriculture wants guest workers. Illegals don't scratch their itch any more, as soon as they get their feet on the ground they want 'better' jobs like construction.

farm labour tends to lend itself to the family name. like family run business, as yes, it is a hard way to earn a living if you are the worker, being the boss is fine, but working it sucks. so mainly only family members do it.

Interesting.
I've also heard that Mexicos southern border policy is extremely harsh. They do not treat their southern border the way we treat ours
