Out of all the breeds, why choose the most vicious ? What does this really say about the owners ?It would be like choosing a tiger for the "family cat".

There was just published a study (I can get the reference if you need it) that people who choose dogs who have bad reputations (Pit bulls, rottweillers, dobermans etc) are far more likely to have criminal records or be addicted to drugs or alcohol.

It supports the idea that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

I'm sorry but what fact are you using to base your question on? Fact: Poodles are more likley to bite your child over a pit bull. True when a pit bull does bit it is going to be more damaging and this is why you hear it on the news, but I am an abvid animal lover and work with dogs. And to this day I have yet to meet a vicious pitbull. It all depends on how you raise your animal. I onw a rotweiler and he is the sweetest dog you will ever meet. Don't base it on hear say. If you bring you dog up right and teach him that you are boss. he will not hurt your family.

It isn't the breed, it is the owner's responsibility to love the dog and train it right. A person would be aggressive too if they lived on a chain and were taught to fight as it's only means of having love. No, I don't have a Pit Bull.

Wrong category, but I'll "bite" anyway.Have you ever been around many pit bulls? They are active, intelligent and very playful and sweet, unless trained otherwise.I used to volunteer at our animal shelter, and pit bulls are my favorite breed. They are really good with kids because they need someone to play with them and stimulate them. That's how they are high-maintenance.They need a lot of playtime.I would have one if I didn't already have three others. They just come to me,I don't choose them. But if I ever get to just choose a dog,it will be a pit bull.I just hope I can keep up with them!

Pit Bulls are actually very protective of the family children if they grow up with them. The breed as in any other breed of dog, is all in how the owner raises it and how much control they have over the animal.

Pit bulls have been known to turn on family members. If you have children - you could loose them. What's more important to you?

I like Pit Bulls and used to have a couple but, I agree even if they are handled properly they are just a gamier dog and even if they are o.k. around people you can't trust them around other dogs.

My pit bull Nairobi was a loyal family friend who never gave us any reason to think he would harm anyone or anything. We rescued him as a puppy....he was sickly, mangey, and full of worms. We showered that dog with love, and he rewarded us with the same.

Dogs are like people. Their temperment is directly proportional to their experiences in their upbringing. It all depends on how you raise them.

I agree. I feel the same way. If someone chooses a pet that is inherently mean, they have a motive for getting it in the first place.

Being a cat, I don't care much for dogs, especially pitbulls...
