There are several ways you can look at this He was born of the flesh on earth and therefore was not god in the sense you are asking he was the messiah the chosen one to be the saviour of all man kind as is said in the bible he was sinless and had to be baptised in water at which time the holy spirit fell upon him then he died and was arisen by god the father to be his only begotten son .So what does this mean it is explained by modern theorlogens that God is like water it comes in many forms like just water ,ice steam etc.so we have the birth of the trinity god the father ,god the son god the holy spirit which lives within us after we repent and accept jesus Christ as our lord and saviour .Just like water God comes in these various forms to the jews he is just God to us we must accept jesus as our lord here on earth as our lord who intercedes to the father on our behalve there fore we must be baptised or cleaned in water accept jesus and receive the holy spirit then try to follow jesus example and live by his one law "treat others as you would have them treat you" put simply this infact covers all the ten commandments with this just one rule where the jewish people must obey the ten commandments that is what they believe anyway but as I have shown with just one rule jesus gave us as gentiles covers the ten commandments .People argue that jesus was in the beginning just as god but I have studied this at great length in greek and hewbrew and it is not that clear if that is a fact but what is fact to christians that when he rose on the third day he was the real son of god our lord ..It is up to every individual to believe or not that is why god gave us free will to choose .To sum up jesus wasnt god on earth he acsended up into heaven and became the son of god the father and sits at his right hand so we must accept the trinity of god after jesus rose from the dead into heaven .A long speach but I wanted to clarify what i believe not what half trained pastors try to portray.

The Jewish religious leaders understood very clearly Jesus' claim to be God. That is why they picked up stones to kill him on on occasion. WHen Jesus asked why they would want to stone him they responded, because you make yourself equal with God.
Another responder made a valid point as well. There was a time and a place to more fully reveal who he was. He had to accomplish certain things during his short 3 year ministry and announcing at the gate of every town "I am God!" was not part of that plan. If you think about it, one sure sign that someone is crazy is when the words "I am God" come from their lips. Jesus did not speak like that. He made an even clearer statement. Miracles of healing (Lazarus), manipulation of molecular states (water to wine, fig tree withering), absolute soverignty over creation (open the fishes mouth there will be a coin in it), and of course his own resurrection. It is easier to say you are God than it is to do things only God can do. Though he probably could have turned some heads by saying the exact words "I am God", raising yourself from the dead cannot be argued against.

That is right, He did not ever say that He is/was the God, but He did say that He was/is the Son of God. That is a big difference. I know, I know, I know, John 1:1,2. What most do not know is that in the original language it goes like this " In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word was with THE God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with THE God."
It makes a marked difference when one has an un-tampered with Bible.
As for 'I and my Father are one.' try reading John 14, and 17.

Part of the answer would possibly be the same reason he used the term 'son of man' for Himself more than He used 'son of God' and cautioned people NOT to tell certain things until AFTER He rose from the dead...it appears He got swamped by crowds and would not be able to travel freely if there was not a 'lid on things' ... there is an aspect of Jesus ministry where He preached with some aspects of His identity and things kept quieter until AFTER he rose from the dead
Nevertheless, Jesus said many things that would effectively claim He was Divine... He used the phrase I AM allot which is reserved for God at the burning bush... as in John
"...before Abraham was I AM... and the Jews picked up rocks to stone Him.."
So, how much more clear would you like it? Jesus also said "tear down this temple (speaking of His body) and in 3 days I will raise it again" in John 2 so He was human enough to die and divine enough to raise himself from the dead

He spent his entire public life doing things only God could possibly do! I'd say actions speak louder than words! On the other hand, John tells us that Jesus, the Word, is eternal, and is God. Hebrews 1:8 tells us that the Father calls the Son God. Jesus did say that He and the Father are One; He did allow Thomas to kneel before Him and worship Him; He did forgive men's sins. The people were upset at this, saying "only God can forgive the sins of men". They were right!

He did say it clearly to his diciples but they had dificulity comprendhending what he said, paul in ephesians said it more clearly and the jewish leaders wanted to kill him for saying it. this is the reason jesus was crucified. He taught "God dwells within you as you". Jesus also taught reincarnation, inner medition on God,mantra repetition and all this came from the rig Vedas, hinduism and siddha yoga. The catholic church has kept these teachings hidden since King constantine called the council of churches in 365 AD when they compiled the first bible.

He isn't. He's the Son of God. Remember the saying, "for he loved the world so much that he sent his only begoten son." "For those who shall believe in him shall never perish and have everlasting life."

because he wasn't nor did he ever claim to be the son of God , this title was bestowed on him by the orthodox jews as a mockery of his ministry his followers all so adapted the term to describe him yet Christ never made this claim in an individulaied context
