Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

No it is not a gift, it is the ability to see that something is true, not because you see the thing but because you see evidence the thing exist.
example, you have never seen the air but you have seen dust floating, trees swaying, your chest moving when you inhale, so you have faith that air is there.

Those of us that have Biblical faith (as opposed to blind faith) look around and see a complicated universe, even a "simple" cell is so complicated it took four scientist almost there entire working lives to map, we look at the complex unity in everything, even Einstein spent a big part of his life looking for a universal theory to tie together physics. Complexity does not happen by accident, as the non-theist believe. We believe it all had a cause. And our faith comes from knowing that this world can not be an longggg....... series of happy accidents.

I do believe it's a gift but I think it's hard work, too. Trust in God and faith are synonymous. When his disciples asked Jesus, "Make our faith greater", (Luke 17:5-10) Jesus seems to be spacing out - If you had faith the size of a mustard seed...and then he tells a story about working out in the fields all day, coming in (weary, hungry, exhausted) and the master of the house (God) says, "Gird your loins that I may sup and then you can have your fill". Basically saying that when you're hungry, exhausted and at the end of your rope from doing your duty, doing the right thing, there's still one more thing you have to do...wait on the Lord. You also have to have humility - " I am a worthless servant and have only done my duty". But the pay-off is so beyond anything you could ever hope for......you can have your fill; everything you need; your heart's desire AND the power to tell a mountain to remove itself and throw itself into the sea. That's the GIFT of faith. But trusting in God, doing your duty to the nth degree, maintaining humility, persevering when everything inside you is wanting to quit and wanting to complain that you're being mistreated - that's the hard work.

To every man is given a messure of faith. Though, there is a gift of faith. Everyone believes in something, even if they want to call it science, or nature or whatever... we all believe in something and hope for something that we are not gaurenteed. This is faith. But there is the gift of Faith given by the Holy Spirit which is a great deal stronger.

Faith is not a gift. The things you receive as a result of faith are gifts.

What about the faith that non believers have, or the faith that people have that science will one day prevail. would you consider that a gift? or are you just talking about religious faith?

Faith is based on belief. Nobody gives it to you. So no, it is not a gift. It is what you chose to believe.

Somewhat,at the beginning God puts under conviction. But we have the option to walk away.I think of God as loving Father/Gardner.We come across trails in our lives.Again we have the choice to walk towards,or away from The Father. When we choose to walk towards,we grow towards the sun/son.Cultivated to become more like Him.So his constant working for our betterment is to give us faith to make through life.

Wow, if faith is a gift from god, then that messes everything up! :(

I don't have faith in god, but it's not my fault, because he didn't give me the gift of faith. So I get dammed forever, when it's never really been up to me at all - but up to a god who refused to give me that gift of faith to begin with.

It is a gift that I sometimes unwrap, like a curious child, then I hurry up and wrap it back up again so no one will know, but, because of my childish, crinckled wrapping job, they will know, and it's O.K. because we all have the FAITH! And it's............
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!
My gift is wrapped in faith!!!!
God Bless!
