It depends on how responsible and mature your children are, my mom started leaving me home alone (same situation as you ) when I started 6th grade, I think that 5th or sixth grade is a good age, but if you have grandparents next door that they can go to for help I would even say 4th grade maybe

I could stay home alone around 10 or 11. It depends on what you think of the child's maturity and responsibility. Also if the grandparents live next door, you can feel more comfortable.

depends on how mature they are and stuff but if there grandparents are right next door then probably 10 or 11 but give them the whole lecture about not answering the door to a stranger or telling someone they don't know on the phone there home alone etc.

Depends on the child. Some kids, never. Some kids 10-11 for a hour or two. Though why have them stay alone if their granparents are next door? I'd leave them a list of tasks to do--even something as simple as grooming the family pet while watching TV. If the tasks and homework are getting done, that's a good sign.

I would say somewhere around 11 or 12, unless before that they have proven that they are mature and responsible enough to handle being left alone for that long.
Even with the grandparents next door you never know what could happen.

Ask your kids. If they don't feel comfortable with it, then they're probably not ready. Start getting them to answer the phone and the door when you're home so you can see how they act. Teach them about being safe when they're home alone, and what to do in case of emergencies. Get them to help you make a list of emergency contact numbers, fire escape routes, etc. I don't think there's a specific age, it should depend on the maturity of the child. I know some older teenagers that shouldn't be left alone!

The law here is 12 too. I think that it is an appropriate age as well. Why cant they go to the grandparents house for a couple hours if they are right next door?
