1) Sort through the junk and the stuff you want to keep - anything you don't want anymore, throw away or give away. It makes a huge difference to see how much stuff you actually have and don't need.
2) When you use something, put it back in it's place when you're done. It's easier to throw it on the floor but if you put individual things back in a certain place, the mess is reduced big-time.
3) Keep your closet drawers organized (all clothes should be folded or hung up) and keep a laundry hamper/basket in your room for dirty clothes; this keeps them off the floor.
4) Buy lots of storage containers and put away things you don't use on a daily basis. CDs and DVDs should be kept in their cases and in a box, so they're not scattered everywhere.
5) Dust and vacuum once or twice a week. It doesn't have to be a big effort, just run the vacuum around and dust things like the wardrobe and the TV. Less dirt/dust = less bugs, dust bunnies, etc. :)

Have you heard that saying, " A place for everything and everything in its place"? I've had this pounded into me ever since I was little. I try to be highly organized with all of my stuff in each room.
I get boxes and label them, (if you have a big mess), keep, maybe, donate, discard. I get rid of clothes that I haven't worn for a year. Shoes too. I buy organizational boxes and stuff from Walmart or wherever and organize drawers closets, and everything else throughout the house.
In the kitchen when I cook, I run the water for my dishes since I don't have a dishwasher, and I wash the dishes and clean up my counters as I use them.
When I do laundry, I have my hangers there so I can hang stuff up and put it away right away.
All of my household cleaners are organized under the kitchen and bathroom sinks.
Once you get your own system down, it really is easy to keep neat.

Put things back right away. I stay organized, everything has a place and when I finish it goes right back to it's proper place. I make my bed in the morning and do up any dishes and take out trash, if everything else is put away then..walla, it always appears clean and tidy at all times.

I keep my closet organized like the spectrum of colors...ROY G BIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet - I put black, brown and white on the end) I always know where to put something away and most importantly, I always know where to find a specific shirt or sweater! Try it!

Tidy up before going to bed. The next day, your place will be neat and you will feel good to be up.

Hospitality. You make your place neat so others will feel relaxed and comfortable whenever they visit. It's nice to have the kind of place where friends and relatives are always welcome, even in a moments notice.
So - you keep the place nice for others, not for yourself.

BASICALLY YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT WHENEVER YOU GET HOME DON'T THROW CLOTHES ON THE FLOOR. HANG THEM UP OR PUT THEM IN A LAUNDRY BASKET. FIND A PLACE TO PUT EVERYTHING, ORGANIZE, ORGANIZE, ORGANIZE. MAKE SURE BOOKS ARE PUT ON B BOOKSHELVES. PENCILS CAN BE PUT IN AN UNUSED CUP. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING HAS A SPECIFIC PLACE. I KNOW THAT SOMETIMES U GET TIRED AND YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE PUTTING STUFF WHERE IT GOES. BUT THINK ABOUT IT LIKE "OKAY I'D RATHER DO IT NOW, THAN TO HAVE TO DO IT LATER."
