You can't possibly love this guy because if you do...you would not leave him just because you want to try other options. It's a very bad idea to hook up with his friend on top of that. No matter what you'll hurt him & even ruin his relationship with his friend.

Please be totally honest with him but remember to be as kind and gentle as possible. There's no way to avoid breaking his heart but you should never remain with someone you aren't really interested in. Speak with this guy privately and let him know that you love him dearly, but not in a romantic way. He should respect your integrity and sincerity since you must always do what is best for yourself as well as for others.
