I have chosen that path, and it is ever so rewarding.

I was raised christian, but refuse to fall into that mindtrap. Personally, many of my beliefs clash with those of the christian church. I understand my relationship with God shouldnt have anything to do with the fact I am pro-choice and a huge supporter of gay rights, but if my fellow christians wont accept me I think im better off concentrating my efforts somewhere where they will be heard rather than shunned. I learned early that christianity doesnt allow for a very open mind, and I wouldnt want to feel trapped. As much as you may think your religion is the way to go, there are others who believe theirs is the true answer. I dont live my life expecting to go to heaven or hell. I try to be a good and accepting person, and if it turns out that heaven truely exists, i should be let in. And if you God cant see the good I did on earth because I didnt follow the Bible and keep the sabbath holy, then I wouldnt have wanted to be associated with a jealous god anyway.

u ignorant idiot...or r u just 8 years old?
u got out accusing all other religions all other faiths of being wrong and christianity right...u obviously have done no research into other religions or philosophy...
people believe in their faiths just as much as yours whose to say whose right or wrong? christianity is a huge bribe for the most part good heaven bad hell but although i must admit it keeps alot of crazy people down...pleasure of the flesh? what the **** no religion indulges soley in worldy pleasures (except i guess satanism (which is stupid a religion that embraces suffering) and scientology which i whave no idea bout) not everyone chooses it...some people dont even know christianity exists...what they go to hell too?? and the jews before christianity believed in punishment or happiness in the afterlife but not heaven and hell...and whose to say what will merit u access into "heaven" the bible is corrupted and butchered by earthly writers and rulers as it is...and some people r just raised in tehir faith...ive asked alotr of people why they believe in god and most of them answer "because my parents raised me on it" if u were raised buddhist ud be a buddhist...not to mention buddhism embraces self enlightenment and combining your won religion with it...theres are different paths to god this mysterious being which has become a set strange thing in christianity...as long as u live a good life and by the golden rule (which was taught by many others than jesus!!! confucious, aristotle) (which is basically built in every human being's mind as they r young) u should merit something after it all...
i hope this opened ur eyes

Wait. Hold up. You chose your faith JUST for the reward? Sick. You shouldn't chose a religion based on what it'll give you for following it, but for the spiritual calm it will bring and the peace of mind it will bring. If you just converted or chose or joined so you could go to heaven because you think it's a quick ticket you're in for a big surprise.

Some people don't believe there is an after-life hence
they have no religion. This life on earth is a very short
span and in my opinion we should make good use of it.
Why should we deny ourselves the pleasure of the flesh
because some ignorant says there is a greater reward
later on. The people who instilled this belief on you should
be severely punished for robbing you of your pleasures,
solely for their own greedy intentions whatever based
entirely on fiction

Uh... hold on a second Emanuel. What makes you think you're right? What makes you think you know the truth? There are lots of people in this world who have come to the conclusion that the Bible was written by humans. There are many who either think there is no Divinity or who think that it's impossible to know whether or not there is one. If the Bible was written by humans as opposed to God, your literalist Fundamentalist beliefs completely fall apart. Without the existance of God, Satan, in Heaven or Hell, any reason to believe in literalist Fundamentalist Christianity disappears.
How do you decide what to believe? How did you decide to believe that the Bible is the word of God? Many of us base our conclusions about the universe on solid facts, evidence, observations, logic, reason and the like. In other words, we actually have bases for the things we think. But, to me, your ideas about the universe seem BASELESS. What evidence do you have that the Bible was written by God or that God even exists? It seems to me that you've simply decided to believe in these ideas for no reason whatsoever or perhaps out a paranoid fear that is devoid of any attachment to reality. It seems to me a bit like believing in Santa or the Easter Bunny. It seems obsurd and ridiculous.
Now, mind you, I'm only telling you this because you asked. I respect your right to your beliefs, but I also have to be honest in my response about what I think about them.
You seem to think you know something about other religions, but it sounds to me like you have never really looked into them. Judaism and Islam both believe in God, some part of the Bible (remember that from the Jewish perspective, they already had their holy book, the Torah - part of what you call the Old Testament and a bunch of other people, independent of the Jews, wrote an add on to it - they see no reason to accept that add on).
Buddhists actually believe that attachment to the impermanent is foolish. They're the opposite of the way you pre-judge people of other religions.
Many, if not all, religions have a code of ethics that they follow.
Many, many religions offer a great deal of hope. Buddhism and Hinduism offer enlightenment through spiritual practices that transform the person into a better person. They in fact offer freedom from nightmares.
Now, you may just not have thought about any of this. On the other hand, I suspect that a lot of Fundamentalists just want to feel superior to others so they tell others that we're going to be tortured eternally if we're not Fundamentalists. I think it's a cruel and abusive thing to do. I believe in being a good person by avoiding harm to others and trying to make the world a better place. If Fundamentalist Christianity is such a cruel, abusive and Sadistic religious persuasion, I want no part of it. If you just asked this question to abusive others so that you can feel superior, stop abusing people!

Hey, that's what you think. A person of another religon might be thinking the exact same religon. Don't bother people about it, you never know which religion is correct. Maybe you're the one who's choosing the wrong religon, maybe all religons are right. Hey, people thought in Roman times that Christans were going to the underworld with Pluto, you don't see what people think. Don't think that you're right always and everyone else is wrong, and don't make rash statements like that. Never say "You're religion is wrong" because there is no wrong religion, and God never said to them "I'm your one and only God", and maybe they worship God in a different way like the Muslims (correct me if I'm wrong) are very close to Christans and they worship God as Allah (I think that's how you spell it), so don't judge one by religon.

It is because they are in the darkness they are blind cannot see the truth
So all we can do is plant the seeds and wait for the lord to rake in the harvest. We can not change there minds only God can do that.
Our Job is to spread the Love of Jesus around, pray for them.
the rest is up to God
May god bless you and have a great day

Because of the way it's misrepresented by fundamentalists and questions like yours. Other religions are NOT of the flesh and are just as equally valid - check out zen buddhism, hinduism, sufism, etc. To say that they're not is to get to the very foundation of exactly why people don't want to accept your particular take on christianity.

How is chosing a single parent who cursed me with menstruation and painful childbirth and places me and all my sisters in a subservient role to his favored children - our brothers - AND whom I can never quite be good enough for unless I'm constantly asking for his forgiveness, a great reward? I don't get it.
Bright blessings!

"Alans" answer is right on the money. You're in it for the reward. I want you to consider that some of us do NOT need to be bribed in order to lead a moral life. Nor do we need to be threatened by eternal suffering in order to avoid doing wrong.
