Of course there is a standard. What if someone killed little babies, but it works for them, brings them satisfaction and makes them feel good, are we to then say that since its good for him he let him do it?

There is a standard of truth. 2+2=4 is true. You can't deny that. Just because someone wants it to be 5 or 6 or whatever does not make it true.

The word "truth" is getting you in trouble.
There is subjective and objective truth, as in reveal knowledge not observed knowledge.
From the bible, we know that God is spirit. The truth is God is spirit and this truth does not depend on anyone.
Then there is something not in reveal knowledge, say Christian women priests. There are no women priests in the New Testament that is an objective truth. Women should or should not be allowed to be priests. This is subjective since this issue is not discussed in the bible, particularly in the New Testament.
So when you say truth, you mean revealed knowledge. When you say subjective truth, you mean personal beliefs that may or may not be objective.

I believe in objective truth in so far as I think there are 3 sides to every story - mine, yours and the truth.
I do think that this existence is largely subjective - I think that is the only thing that makes it work really - and so yes, whatever you believe is true for you. For example I think that when we die, our spirit selves return to the source, as it were. I think that if you believe you will lay in a box I think that is what you will do (unless you realize that you are a conscious spirit in a box and decide to leave). I think that no matter if you think you will succeed or fail you are right also - have you ever met someone who was sure they would fail that didn't? I wonder if that answered the question.
Peace!

I believe there really is a truth, but not sure what you mean by a standard of truth. It's either true or it's not.

The answer is in the words,"whatever works". In other words whatever produces results is reality for you. "you shall know the Spirit by the fruits". This is a valid standard of truth.

Truth/Reality can only be experienced. Until then, we can rely on the premise that everything is 'us' and One. Using that, the motivation is to consider others as ourselves, to reduce self interest and consider mutual interest in all situations. In this, we then realize that we want to avoid the suffering of others and ourselves. That is the highest morality -- and a code of ethics won't do it justice because it would become a rigid and static thing that didn't take into account a real understanding of the situation. Each situation has to be deeply examined and the action that results in the least amount of suffering is the best.

Jesus Himself answered questions with phrases like, "Thou hast said," and "How readest thou?" He quoted as fact the O.T.statement "Ye are gods" and seemed to think "man" should be more proactive about the Sabbath. So I think He wants to share his rulership with us, but that's a scary thought for me because He's answered my prayers even when I prayed for wrong stuff. Now, my desire is for my "sovereign" truth to come closer to His ideal. I want to know Him better, without all the 6,223,448 adaptations He goes through to accommodate my smallness. His victory beyond the cross tells me His goodness can survive my presence in His universe, that His objective truth will still shine on while my adaptable one moves closer. That is my deepest hope..

There cant be. If something is true, than it is true. IT doesnt "apply to other people differantly".
HOWEVER!...
Some truths are objective. Such as..This is the best theme park ever...thats the best color on that car...Thats not a good picture...Those can all be applied to people diferantly.
But on the subject of God, its not so. God either exists or he doesnt. He doesnt exist for some people and not for others. If he exists then he DOES..if not then he DOESNT. The same is true for every "attritbute" of God. For example...The Trinity..its either true or its not. Its not "true for Christians, but not for Muslims"..NO its either true or not...you cant mold truth to fit your beleifs..then it wouldnt be truth would it?

There are few things in life, that are black& white, in most areas, there is gray. If some one believes that praying to God every day helps, then it probably does. If a nother believes it is meditating to Budda, then that is what works for them. No one, no matter how intelligent, spritual has ever really proven that ONE, religion, or believe is better than all others. So it is my believe, "what ever works for you", I'll keep this opinion, untill some one can prove other wise
