I have been considering getting a tattoo for about 3 years. I want green flowing leaves across my lower back that curve and dip in toward a peach rose in the center of the design. The peach rose is a nod toward my husband and our wedding day since we had peach roses. This will be my first and only tattoo. I want to know how and if stretch marks and permanently alter a tattoo like this on my lower back?

Any tattoo can be affected by stretch marks. I have a lower back tattoo and I'm going on baby number two. I have never had a problem with stretch marks on my lower back. Most women chose to get a lower back tattoo because of the lower risk of stretch marks(you don't put weight on in this area while pregnant, usually) and the idea that you can hide it. As for not being able to get an epidural, that is an urban legend. There are people actually investigating this, but most women have no problem getting one(including me). The placement of an epidural is actually higher then the placement of a lower back tattoo(I'm a nursing student and learned this in Anatomy). Your design sounds beautiful and I wish you good luck on your tattoo.

yes they stretch. the million dollar question is will it look normal after you loose the baby weight? it all depends on everyone's body. if you develop stretch marks on the tattoo, it will more than likely look deformed. i personally have a daugher, and with a rigorous work out plan and a strict diet, i was able to loose all my baby weight. I also applied a lot of vitamin e oil so i wouldnt develop stretch marks, and i got lucky. my tattoos look fine, but like i stated before, this is my body, and not everyone reacts the same way. every body is different and there is no guarantee. if you are truly worried about it, i would suggest you pass on the location, and pick somewhere else.

Hi
Yes a tattoo would be permanently altered by stretch marks. Same if you were to cut open your skin where you have a tattoo. It would ruin it.

two things. yes it would affect the stretch marks, and i should warn you that if you are planning on having kids, dont get a lower back tattoo. some doctors wont give you the morphine shot(that goes in your lower back during labor) if you have a tattoo there

Yes, they can. My friend got one on her lower back of a butterfly and then she got pregnant and a stretch mark or two went right through it. Try getting one in a place that doesn't get fat or grow... I just got one the other day on the back of my neck and it is CUTE!

Yes. It would.
I wouldn't recomend getting a lower back tattoo if you're planning on having kids and stuff.

Also...just a heads up. Usually lower back tattoos are called tramp stamps, no matter what the design.

But it sounds beautiful, none the less.

Good luck!!!

Yes, stretchmarks will affect a tatoo on any part of the body. Just so you know, tattoos on the lower back are labeled "tramp stamps", just so you know, so if you plan on having any children, a "tramp stamp" would not be a good thing. I would recommend a tatoo on the lower shoulder blade, or mid back. Good luck
