my 90 gmc jimmy makes noises when its cold in reverse?

like its hitting something,if i turn the key off and on a couple times it stops

Definitely need more info to answer this question, like is it a scrapping ,rubbing ,grinding knocking noise?

the early 90s gmcs and chevy jimmys/blazers are famous for tranny trouble. check w/ a mechanic
