Ok don't go by what people tell you. The're all wrong. In Puerto Rico only a 15% talks english. Believe I'm from there. Out of all of my friends and family I can tell you that 10 of 30 can speak good english. SO I strongly suggest for you to learn a bit of spanish, at least basics before you go!

Yes. According to the latest census 99% of Puerto Ricans have Spanish as their main language (just like Cuba or Venezuela, hello? Puerto Rico is a latin country).
You need to at least know some spanish words and phrases to comunicate in San Juan. There are many books that can help you with this.

Of course you need to speak spanish!
Puerto Rico is a latin american nation, everything is in Spanish over there honey! the only people speaking english down there are the tourist and maybe one or two puerto ricans raised in New York, the rest is Spanish all the way! . Spanish is easy and you will learn it fast. Once you get to Puerto Rico you will learn more spanish.
Good Luck!

In San Juan, you can get by on your English only. If you decide to go to other areas on the island, an English/Spanish dictionary may be needed. The thing is many people do speak English, but many only understand it and don't speak it.
There is always someone that does know English and can help you, but people can usually figure out what you are saying or asking for.

Most people in Puerto Rico speak English, but a lot of them speak only Spanish. They'll understand what you mean though and help you out. Puertoricans are truly amongst the nicest, friendliest, most courteous people I have ever met in my life. You are lucky to be visiting them.

I really don't think so. Because Puerto Rico is a commenwealth of the United States, I do believe both languages are official and most Puertoricans are fluent in both.

No you will be fine but you know what, when you visit another country and they speak another language, they REALLY appreciate it if you TRY to speak it. So take along a conversation book and make an effort. If you do, they will happily speak English with you if you are struggling.
