My daughter is a little speech delayed. She didn't have any words until she was about 22 months old. But in the last 2 1/2 months thinks have really started to pick up. She has about 50-60 now. So she is making quite a bit of progress. She attends Speech Therapy once a week and they aren't concerned about Autism or anything serious, just think she has a run of the mill delay.

It's really been neat seeing her say new words, sometimes I thought the day would never come! So now I'm just curious to see if she has caught up a little bit more to other children her age. (She just turned 2 this month).

Thanks!

When my kids turned two, the doctor told me the average two year old only has a few dozen clear words at best. My eldest had tons more, my yongest two both only had 20 or so at 2 - but by 2 1/2 they had made up for it, lol.

At age 30 months, or 2 1/2 years, a child should have around 50 understandable words.

My daughter had to change from Chinese to English at 13 months when we adopted her. She really didn't pick up much English until she was about 2 and a half, then all of the sudden, she's Chatty Cathy. She has a lisp, and most of the time no one can get everything she says but me, but her vocabulary now is vast. It's so fun to watch. Now if I could just get my 14 year old to speak English instead of whatever it is she is speaking...
