She only has to file if she makes over $10K, however she can file if wants regardless what she makes. Refund depends of course on alot of things, but since she will be most likely filing 1040 ez, she can get a refund. Refunds always are more also, the lesser the person makes. One year I made 20K and received a small 500 refund, and that same year my best friend filed make 14K and received a 800 refund. Hope this helps

Assuming you can still claim her as a dependent, she is required to file if her income exceeds $5150 or she has unearned income of $300 or more. If she is not required to file, she is entitled to a refund of any Federal income tax withheld. She can only claim the refund if she files. In short, if she had any Federal income tax withheld, she should file a return.
