I agree it can be annoying, I used to feel insulted when I received a Christmas card, with an 'oh, by the way, Happy Birthday'.
You can either buy a stock of birthday cards earlier in the year before they make way for Christmas cards, or why not have a go at making them yourself - very popular at the moment - and the recipient will be so pleased that you have gone to so much trouble at a time when birthdays tend to be forgotten.

I've notice it's not just Birthday cards that are shunted out of the shops at christmas - you try buying a nice engagement congrats card or a 'it's a boy" type card!
When we have special cards, 'from the cat on Mother's day" - (yes, I have seen these in the shops!) you'd think the retail card industry could give some consideration to those that were born in December wouldn't you!

Most card chains have their stocks of birthday cards put away to make way for seasonal ones. All you have to do is ask an assistant nicely for what you want and they will be happy to oblige and show you where to find them.I have family who's birthdays are around easter and christmas, and if I haven't got them in advance, it is what I do, and the staff are always helpful.

Me! I have a son, a daughter and a dad who all have birthdays in November and December and it's a pain trying to find a decent card and also not too expensive - I've taken to making them or getting my son (who's 6) to make them as people often appreciate the effort you've gone to more. Also they are individual! have you ever tried to get a toddler or small child to do the same drawing twice! doesn't work!

I'm forever getting random cards. If I can't find a decent birthday card I'll get something like a get well soon card and say "for when you're nursing your hangover" or a berevement card and say "well it can't be much longer now"
