mormons are christian people who belong to the "church of jesus christ of latter day saints", also called LDS. they're from all walks of life - from blue collar workers to the governor of massachusetts. the mormons who go door to door will talk with you about religion and give you material on their faith only if you want. if you don't want to speak with them, just say "no thank you" and they'll go away. mormons will help anyone in need - all you have to do is ask. they don't care what religion, color, or ethnicity you are... if you're starving they will feed you; if you need help of any kind, they will do what they can. they do not discriminate. mormons do believe in keeping a 2 yr supply of food on hand. they do NOT believe in polygamy. the sect that believes in polygamy is called FLDS (fundamentalist latter day saints). the FLDS broke away from the LDS church in 1890 when the LDS church banned polygamy. LDS is a legit religion - FDLS is considered a cult.

A church founded by Joseph Smith at Palmyra in western New York in 1830 and having its headquarters since 1847 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Its doctrines are based chiefly on the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and other revelations made to church leaders. Also called Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
But in some cases some people pervert the actual meaning and use this as an offensive term reflecting context based dogma thinking

Mormons, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are Christians in every sense of the word. The scriptures they follow are the KJV of the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine & Covenants (revelations given modern prophets), and the Pearl of Great Price (translations of early books of Moses and Abraham).
Mormons follow the Godhead of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, and they pray to the Father through the Son, Jesus Christ.
Mormons believe that Jesus Christ, the Jehovah of the Old Testament, is the same Lord that created this world and uncountable others and that through Him we can attain salvation and exaltation.
Mormons no longer practice plural marriage and that law was repealed through revelation in October 1890.
Mormons attend church on Sundays besides other weekly meetings dealing with the youth and other groups.

Mormons are known now as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or just LDS for short.
While there are sects of Mormonism that practice polygamy, the LDS do no such thing.
They are very family oriented, and generally very nice people.
They believe that their Book of Mormon is another section or testament of the Bible about ancient America and the appearance of Jesus here in the Americas. They believe that this revelation was given to a man by the name of Joseph Smith, who then copied everything down into the Book of Mormon they now use. That is supposed to have happened in the 19th century.
Because they believe in and follow Christ, they are Christians.

Mormons are followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They believe that Jesus came to the America after being crucified and taught ancient people that were ultimately killed by what became present day native Americans. It's really a load of crap. Joseph Smith claims to have had a vision where he was told that there were golden plates that he was to transcribe and make The Book of Mormon. They tend to be very clannish. They once officially allowed polygamy. Some sects still do. Most that I've met have been very industrious, hard working and trustworthy people, even if they have funny beliefs. They do tend to be very family oriented and they're always happy.

They are followers of a religion, and like to call themselves members of the Church of Latter Day Saints. They believe in the New Testament, but also believe in the book of Mormon. The book of Mormon comes from tablets found by Joseph Smith some time in the 19th century near Palmyra, New York (right around where I grew up!). An angel helped him translate them, and the tablets tell of how Jesus appeared in the Americas after his death and ressurection in Jerusalem. While they believe in Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit, in actuality their belief system is very, very different from that of mainstream Christianity.
Many people already gave you this but here's the link to the wiki article about them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon
As for what they do, they just live their lives like you and I. The reason they come knocking on your door is that it is part of a Mormon's life to go on a "mission." Around the age of 19 members of the Mormon church will travel and try to convert people. It's sort of a coming of age thing.

Mormons (or Latter Day Saints) are a group of people who follow the beliefs and teachings of Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith (a self proclaimed prophet) started this "religion" in 1830 after claiming to have been visited by an angel and instructed to start a chruch that restored the true teachings of God.

Me and my three friends (All in our late 20's) have formed a team to help out our neighborhood. I wear a Jar Jar Binks costume and am the leader. Then there is the guy who wears the Grimace costume, he is the strong man. Then there is the guy who is a convicted sex offender, he wears a trenchcoat like the matrix. And lastly, their is "The Professional", he wears a cardboard Burgerking crown and a fake muscle suit. We walk around town and knock on random doors. When the person answers, I dance and do a Jar Jar quote, then make a loud screech with an air horn. While the person is reeling from the sound, the sex offender confesses that he is a sex offender (as required by his parole). Then the grimace throws some leaves and dirt into the persons house. And lastly, Muscle King plays 'me so horny' on his boombox and we dance. We have done this to hundreds of houses. Are we some kind of kings? I don't know how?
