They all make funny noises at different things. My friends cat barks. My old cat used to sound like a machine gun when she saw a fly.

My cats do that too. No matter how long a cat is indoors, he/she never looses certain aspects of his/her instinctual wildness. The noise varies, but the reason is the same. Cats are hunters and when he/she see something they would hunt, be it a bird or squarl or fly, the cat makes noises as he/she would if he/she where hunting. We used to have a outdoor cats when I was young and they made the same noises when hunting.

Your cat is just demonstrating his instinct to kill. This teeth chattering is the fatal bite to his pray. They can be seen doing this just before they strike that bird, mouse or frog outdoors. However, cats generally get so worked up and carried away when they are watching little creatures through the window, or playing with a toy that they almost forget that they aren't actually killing them.

the cat probably sees, smells, or hears something that interests her. There was a study done once that cats can have upto something like 27 distinct volcalisations and orientals breeds have a wider range of sounds than most other cats. Take pleasure that your cat is happy and wants to talk.

My cat chatters a lot!!! Did some research and according to cat expert Desmond Morris, this is called 'vacuum activity'. Your cat is practising the killing bite which brings an almost instantaneous death to its pray. They don't control this, in fact they can't help themselves.
My cat spends hours looking out the window unable to control herself. To us it sounds like she's singing!

I have two siamese cats and the one will sit on the window sill and make the same sound,I think it a way of communicating?,or she/he just wants to play with the birds or whatever they can see outside.

Hi. That noise is called "chirping" or "chatting". It's a natural instinct when they see a bug or bird or bunny or squirrel. It's a cats natural instinct to want to hunt and that is the noise that is made. It's ok, your kitty is in a good mood at that time. But don't let him outside.. he may not come back or could get hurt. Best to let him admire through the window.

The noise you hear is usually known as a 'chatter'.

If you look in the direction your cat is looking you will probably see that the cat is focused on birds.

Cats chatter like this when they see prey.

When cats are stalking their prey, birds or mice, they make a 'little' noise and if the prey doesn't hear that it means they won't hear the cat approaching them. It is a hunting ploy used by all cats, large and small.
