Most who spell it with a Hyphen "-" are Jewish. It is a tradition from the Old Testament where God warned them not to take His name in vain, so they do not pronounce the name of God to avoid the misuse of it.

Well, god with a capital G implies a name - but I know that at least Jews are taught not to write the whole word out lest something happen to the paper it is written on and God's name be damaged (in that case they use the G-d spelling).

The small g implies the basic word god (which does not refer to a specific person) or it could someone who is too lazy or doesn't care if they capitalize God's name. Again the - is used by folks who don't think it is right to write out the name (though you would think if they were concerned about that then they would capitalize).

I generally use god unless i really want to make sure that people know that I am talking about the name of an individual. I was raised jewish but now am more of a new age type.

Peace!

So long as you are enjoying the sex at the time the comment was made, why would you care ? Just say "You're so right babe!' and keep on . . failing to satisfy your partner, by the sounds of things. More seriously, as many earlier answers have explained, "This has no meaning anymore" implies that "this" used to have meaning and no longer does. The other statement doesn't imply that "this" used to have meaning, nor does it imply that "this" it never did. But to put them in context, if either of these statements are what you're hearing during sex, it means you're about to become single.

God is when you are speaking of The One God.

G-d can be sign that the asker does not know the nature of G-d. To give something a name is to know it and to have some control over it. Spelling G-d in this manner shows that we do not understand the true nature.

g-d can be the same as above save for the writer forgetting to put the first g in the upper case.

It has been used in another context as a swear word. It is a custom here to blot out the vowels in swear words like f*ck or sh-t. I might be used in this manner by people who hold a lot of hate.

god is used when to referring to the gods of myth. If the composer of the question believes God is a myth or story, she/he will use god.

Also it could be a simple mistake of forgetting to put it in the upper case.

Just personal choice, weird as it is. God is spelled g - o - d. The ones that leave out the o are afraid to write a simple word. Since all of the various gods that christians, catholics, muslims and jews, as well as others worship are man-made gods, it doesn't really matter a whole lot. Since there is no afterlife, though, no one religious will ever know there is no god, since they ceased to exist at death.

Superstitions and traditions.

Jehovah God made his name known in ancient texts but it was men who decided that God's own name be taken out of scriptures so it could not be taken in vain.
Some people think that God is God's name but God and LORD are titles not personal names.
Unfortunately, this continues today.
God wanted to reveal Himself through the Bible to humanity and Jehovah Witnesses are honoured to use God's name rendered in english as Jehovah or Jah the shortened form of the divine name. (Psalm 83:18) (Revelation 19:1-3)
The New World Translation restores God's name Jehovah back where it rightfully belongs in the scriptures.
Hallelujah indeed! The word means “Praise Jah, you people."

God - traditional spelling of the omnipotent Higher Power, usually ascribed to the Judeo-Christian and Islamic faiths, although it extends to others.

G-d - this is how observant Jews spell 'God' for fear that if they were to write 'God' out, the name may later be desecrated. It's just so God's name isn't desecrated.

god - when a lower-case 'g' is used, it usually denotes polytheism, or a false deity. Or somebody is just careless.

g-d - usually used by ultra-observant Jews, whom fear that even 'god' should not be desecrated.

I always spell with a capital letter. It is his name and title and he is the God of all gods. There are many gods but only one true God

When I'm trying to make a statement, i use god to denote either a god of a pantheon or as a way to imply the christian's god is not God. Also ,sometimes I'm too lazy to capitalize, or sometimes capitalize the "g" out of force of habit, I used to be a christian. Can't say about the rest of your question, though.
