Let's see:
The Romans ruled most of the mediterranean, and were busy both with external rebellions and internal politics.
China was in yet another dynasty, and was actually progressing quite rapidly at that time -- much more so in culture and even science than Europe or the middle east.
Japan was in the early Shogun period, and was occupying Korea (one of many such occupations).
The Olmec and the Maya were ruling much of south and central America, while north America was sparsely populated by roaming, nomadic "indian" tribes who mostly got along with each other in the big open spaces.
The germanic peoples and vikings were fighting anybody they could, often each other, and resisting Roman incursions into their territories. Britain was occupied by Rome.
The peoples who would later become Russians were just making early villages, and they along with what were known at the time as "Thracians" (people living along the south and west of the Black Sea) were independent at the time and mostly worried about feeding themselves.
Egypt was under Roman rule, but Nubia wasn't (the kingdom at the head of the Nile south of Egypt). Nubia controlled much of northern africa apart from Egypt. Most of the rest of Africa was much like north america -- small tribes that were either in small villages or nomadic. There were no people on Madagascar yet. Australia was entirely inhabited by Aborigines, who were much like American indians.
Other than a tiny few in and around Jerusalem, none of them (many millions) knew anything about jesus, and didn't care.

Zoroastrianism was the largest religion in the world at the time; now it is one of the smallest. The Magi which visited the Christ child belonged to this religion.

Yes.. there were people all over the planet doing living just as dynamically as we do today except without the technology.
Look how many people there were in the old testament and then think about the generations and generations there after.

Some were worshiping Budda, some were Jews. Most others didn't follow Jesus till after his death. It was way before the Renaissance time, if that helps you any. :)
