I'm not sure what the best name is for a female dog. But for a male it is "Jack". This is said to be the perfect name for use in training a dog, because of it's crisp sound.

You could name the dog based on their breed or nature - example a large male dog could be named Tyson / Butch / King / Zar / etc, and small female dogs could be named Princess / Missy / Ruby / Petal / Daisy.....

Dark dogs could be named Sooty or Pepper or Raven etc
Light dogs could be named Pearl, Casper or Angel etc

Character names could be like - Charlie, Spot, T.J, or even named after a favourite celebrity.

Hope this helps you decide.
