Not your lucky day and not your lucky place. There are stores that do not play it, go there. In the meantime let those who enjoy hearing it be around. It is not forever anyway. Or if you can do it, get an i-pod, put the speakers on your ears and make the sound loud enough so you do not hear the x'mas musics. I for one do not go to those places so I don't have the problem you have. Much as I do not want to hear it, I also do not want to see their decorations but I let those people who believe and enjoy it do as they please. Since you could be outnumbered, they are the public and they have the right to be there. Some store owners are of different religions or non-believers but they earn from the business. One or two people like us must give way for a while.

Stores are not public places.
Stores reflect the culture of the owner.
You don't HAVE to shop there.
Take your money to stores that reflect your beliefs/culture. That's what I do. That's how a capitalist system operates.
The store can only stay open and do business when CUSTOMERS are HAPPY and return TO SPEND THEIR MONEY.
Live in a capitalistic system long?

P.S.
It will all be over Dec 27 - RELAX.
Try and find a date for New Years Parties - there's something you should worry about. You sound like a great catch for the women - how do you feel about St. Valentines Day? Too much retardation for you? That's what I thought.

Take heart, the stores don't care anymore about Jesus' birth than you do. They are playing the songs to encourage people to spend more money. You should revel in the commercialization of a once holy holiday. The Cristians stole the Winter Festival from the Pagans and made it Christmas. The Pagans have now stolen it back and made it THE shopping event of the year. Don't complain about Christmas being a religious holiday, because it's hardly that anymore for the vast majority of people. So quit complaining and start spending like mad so we can defeat terrorism.

There IS a God whethere you want to believe it or not. I pray for you every day since I get that you have something seriously strong against Christians. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. Guess who's going to be the ones to perish? The Athiests. And guess who's going to be the ones to have eternal life? The Christians. Where do you think the Bible came from? Where do you think the entire universe came from, for that matter? Do you think it just popped out of nowhere? That's a whole lot dumber that thinking God created it.

Stores have every right to play christmas music. And christians (as defended by the ACLU) can also spread their message in and near stores and, yes, even in schools and government (as long as the latter a) doesn't interrupt normal school activity and b) doesn't involve a representative of the school or government which would be tacit or explicit endorsement by the state of a particular practice/belief). It's very helpful to read the ACLU cases on this to see the very positive stance they take on both the separation of church and state AND making sure that evangelicals aren't stopped from exercising their right to spread their message. BOTH accomplish the same thing and it's important to see and understand this.

Because stores know who butters their bread. When 90% of a nation celebrates Christmas, they market to those who do. They make sure that their stores accommodate the shoppers. It's just good business sense.

Besides, there is no law that says religion cannot (or does not) have a place in the public square. And if you try and use "separation of church and state," a store is not a state agency, usually.

Stores play that music to get shoppers in the mood to spend their money on Christmas gifts. Store owners don't care if that music has nothing to do with the birth of Christ (which did not take place in December). I mean, how can you connect "Frosty the Snowman," "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," and "Here Comes Santa Claus" with the birth of Jesus? It's all about money. I can't stand that music either.

I'm Muslim, but this is A Christian Nation so they can play all the Christmas songs they want. If there was an Atheist Country I would feel the same way.

Why do I as a Christian have to listen to that rock and roll blasting for the other 11 months of the year? I would be happy to give up the Christmas music if I could shop in peace and quite for the rest of the year;

Stores are a public place, but its not a federal building, place etc, so they are allowed to play christmas music. Usually they play it to be festive, because you've got to admit most people aren't like you and probably enjoy listening to it. They also might play it for advertising reasons, as it gets people in the holiday mood and makes them think about buying christmas presents, decorations, etc.
