Matt 17:20 He said to them, "Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain,'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

How do you measure your faith to determine if it's mustard-seed-like enough?

Ah, the elusive "true" word... well then, what is "true" faith?

Look at it from a different view, not from the SIZE of a mustard seed but from the faith the mustard seed has. In the passage Jesus tells us that the mustard seed is one of the tiniest seeds, yet it grows into one of the biggest bushes, so big that birds make nests in it. Imagine God says to this tiny seed "you'll grow into a HUGE bush, bigger than the other bushes in the garden" the seed might be like us and look at all the bigger seeds and big bushes and say "uhhhh yeah right" but it doesnt, it just believes what God says and just grows. That's how God wants us to be.
God tells us with that kind of faith we can move mountains.... do we ever just trust Him and do it? No... we all see how big it is and say "ummm you mean something else right?"

I have seen an actual mustard seed...it is vey small...so I think that is the way Jesus tells us about faith...if we can believe at least the size of a mustard seed...sometimes I guess our unbelief is greater than the mustard seed...

It means, "Have a little faith". A mustard seed is little; thus, faith has no levels, "big" faith, or "small". There is just faith...also known as a small willingness to believe.

I do not measure my faith; it need not be examined, just exercized, practiced, revelled in, enjoyed. It is really quite simple.

mustard seed is very little.
What Jesus was saying is that 'faith' (provided it is in the right thing) is powerful, just a little can do a great amount of work.

that you can hold something so small and see it grow to a great size
just like faith
i am sure the mustard seed is so small in comparison to other seeds for the size of the plant that it grows to
just a comparison for what little faith we must have in order to see huge results

It means, one begins with the belief in the tiniest remote possibility of achieving something (like moving a mountain by commanding it). and by using the power of faith, one can manifest that belief into a full-blown experience.

God desires that we have faith, and it can be as tiny as that seed.Jesus said he is the author and finisher of our faith,he promises to hold us when we are ready to die spiritually even.He fans the flame of faith when it is even just a smoldering ember.I know my faith has almost been dead, and he revived my soul,my faith,my hope,my love,my life.

faith in the purest form is unblemished by second thoughts or limitation to the possibility. It is inspired and enpowered by God. Any amount of this pure faith regardless of smallness is huge and surpasses all understanding.
