The blinds get in the way everytime I want to let my dog out. Most of the time, they don't turn to open, gotta fix almost every one by turning them. Curtains might make it too dark but I do like to crack the blinds to look out if I don't want them open all the way since I am on the lower level.

Get a sheer curtain, so it blocks some light but its sheer so some still gets through. then get hooks on either side of the doorway, so you can pull the curtains back all the way if you want by putting them on the hooks.

I am having that same problem...I don't want to lose my light by getting curtains, and the blinds are on their last leg. I did look at some of the window film at Home Depot..I might consider that.

If you let the dog out the window, you could always get shades. If not, basically your only other choice would be curtains. It wouldn't be too dark if you bought thin see-through ones.

Use net curtains under your curtains, so during the day it won't be too dark, but still private.

You'll have to speak with your landlord/apartment manager. When you signed your lease there was paperwork that probably stated that the blinds could not be taken down. If they need to be fixed then your landlord/manager needs to know this so that the maintenance people can do their job.

Try those tented window dressings. You can get them to fit the window laterally so maybe they won't get in the way as much.
