Im asking on behalf of my mom =)

she says she is pretty sure the answer is "yes" but wants to make sure.

Yes, you can substitute, but might I suggest you hold back slightly on the vinegar, add in a bit of fruit juice like apple juice, and maybe a bit of cinnamon?

Cider vinegar or white vinegar will work just fine.

Yes, you can always substitute different vinegars, it's just a bit different in flavor but it doesn't make too much of a difference.

Yes of course you can, it'll only alter the taste very slightly and you'll hardly notice.

You can, but it will have a slightly different flavor and color. Not that noticable, though. I doubt anyone would notice unless you tell them.
